- Acting is acting, whether it’s here or in Romania or in Estonia or in America. A career abroad seems the same to me as this one here. So it is not necessary for me to appe- ar in two frames of some American film that don’t mean anything. That is not an acting challenge. I am in- terested in everything that is good, high quality, that excites me. I want to do something I haven’t done pre- viously, regardless of where that co- mes from, but it must mean somet- hing to me. You often state that glory is a double-edged sword. What is on the one edge and what is on the other? - On the one edge is that you are recognised on the street, that you are praised and loved, and on the other edge is that you sometimes don’t want that. Sometimes you want to be alone, for no one to know you and disturb you. Everyone reserves the right to think of you as a good friend because they saw you on tele- vision. That can be overburdening. Cooking helps you to escape to some better world. It is said that you are an excellent cook? - I love to cook. That’s a wonder- ful skill. When you cook you can’t think about something horrible or be angry and irritated. You prepare something that will be eaten by so- meone who is dear to you or that you will eat yourself. And it is particular- ly satisfying when they say that it is tasty and they eat everything. I am good at cooking cabbage with ribs, moussaka, soups, while Irish pie is the most complex thing that I am capable of preparing. You teach kids who love acting at “Theatre 78”, while you say that you are also a child in yo- ur soul... - We are all children. There is so- mething that makes us serious, we go through some things that make us darker and we think that because of our age we have to make precise and clear limits for ourselves about what and who we are. And the child within us is a valuable source of in- spiration, some irrational opinions, joyfulness that you can dig up when things are tough for you. That must be protected, because that it is the sincerest and purest thing that we po- ssess. That’s why I jealously cultiva- te that kind of childish sensitivity.
