Pesme ispisane rukama Vaska Pope, Tina Ujevića i Vojislava Ilića Mlađeg, prvo izdanje Lamenta nad Beogradom Crnjanskog i Na Drini ćurpije Ive Andrića, arhiva Uroša Pre- dića, spomen-soba Miodraga Pavlo- vića, necenzurisani testament Pavla Vuisića, pisaće mašine Bore Ćosića, Milovana Danojlića, Gvida Tartalje...
O n the edge of town, at the end of one Voždovac settlement, where you le- ast expect it, a kingdom of books is located. In a house that only appears ordinary at first glan- ce, the real wealth of the Lazić fami- ly is hidden. The youngest heir, Viktor, who deserves the most credit for the fact that the family’s passion for books was used for the common good, and grew to unbelievable proportions, is the ninth generation of the Lazić fam- ily to deal with collecting books. The first was Mihajlo Lazić, a priest. From 1882 to 2012, when the collection offi- cially became a Museum and opened to the public, nearly a million titles had been amassed. Behind thick walls and drawn cur- tains – a wondrous world. Exotic books from distant regions: a book made of bamboo sticks, a prayer book from Sri Lanka which serves as a fan, a book- let made of elephant excrement, and another one made of rice, which can be eaten in case the reader is hungry... Then there is a Tibetan prayer book- let, a book from Sumatra supposedly bound with human bones, and one of the smallest books in the world, from the Gutenberg Museum… All the way to manuscripts, personal items and entire libraries of the works of some of the most important Serbian writers. Poems written by hand by Vasko Popa, Tin Ujević and Vojislav Ilić Jr., the first edition of Miloš Crnjanski’s “Lament over Belgrade” and Ivo An- drić’s “Bridge on the Drina”, the ar- chive of Uroš Predić, a memorial room of Miodrag Pavlović, the uncensored testament of Pavle Vuisić, typewrit- ers belonging to Bora Ćosić, Milovan Danojlić, Gvido Tartalja et al. - The Lazić family’s tradition of collecting books began with priest Mi- hajlo Lazić, nine generations before I took over, Viktor Lazić explains to us, adding that the library has shared the
