Dragan has made many local friends throughout all these years. He also played table tennis in the Spanish second league and the first Canarian league. This gave him an opportunity to visit all the surrounding islands. - The people here are unreal. First I was thrilled by the fact that they don’t care at all where you come from, but rather what you’re like. They are extremely hospitable, as though it is in their genes to have huge hearts in their chests. They like to joke, are positive and very emotional. Com- pared to our mentality, they are a little in their way of life. When they need to finish something for you, they first say, “Mañana”, which means to- morrow. Dragan lives in the south of Ten- erife, in the tourist resort of Playa de las Americas, in the municipalities of Adeje and Arona. Tenerife, Dragan tells us, is also called the island of “eternal spring”, because temperatures range from 20 to 25 degrees. For example, NASA de- clared one zone in the Canary Islands as having the world’s best climate. - You can wear t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops all year long, and sometimes during winter, while people swim in the ocean they can see snow covering the top of the volcano. People of many different nation- alities and religions live on the is- lands. They most commonly eat fish. The most famous local speciality is “Conejo en salmorejo“, or rabbit in a five-spice sauce. - The Canary Islands have almost no industry. They live mainly from tourism and a little bit from agricul- ture. They are major producers of ba- nanas, while the ocean is rich in fish. For example, every day you can see dolphins and whales near the island. Tenerife is known around the world for its active volcano, Teide, which is 3,817 metres tall. The locals have great respect for the volcano, calling it “Father Teide”.

nosno prvoj kanarskoj ligi. Bila je to prilika da obiđe sva okolna ostrva. – Ovde su ljudi nestvarni. Prvo me je oduševila činjenica da im uop- šte nije bitno odakle si, već kakav si. U proseku nisu visokoobrazovani, ali su izuzetno gostoljubivi. Kao da im je nasledno da imaju ogromno srce u grudima. Vole da se šale, pozitivni su i vrlo emotivni. U odnosu na naš mentalitet malo su usporeni. Kad tre- ba nešto da vam završe, prvo kažu: „Mañana“. To znači sutra. Dragan živi na jugu Tenerifa, u turističkom gradu Playa de las Ame- ricas u opštinama Arona i Adeje. Tenerife, priča nam Dragan, još zovu i „ostrvom večitog proleća“ jer se temperatura kreće od 20 do 25 ste- peni. Na primer, NASA je jednu zonu na Kanarskim ostrvima proglasila za najbolju klimu na svetu. Cele godine možete da nosite majice, bermude i papuče, a ponekad, dok se ljudi zimi kupaju u okeanu, gledaju u snegom prekriven vrh vulkana. Na ostrvima živi mnogo nacija i religija. Hrane se najčešće ribom. Od lokalnih specijaliteta najpoznatiji je ,,conejo al samorejo“, odnosno zec u sosu sa pet začina. – Kanarci gotovo da nemaju in- dustriju. Žive pretežno od turizma i pomalo od poljoprivrede. Veliki su proizvođači banana. Okean je bogat ribom, a svakoga dana u blizini ostr- va možete da vidite delfine i kitove.
