And regardless of how much we might think that symmetry is more pleasing to the eye, we would never wear two brooches. We won’t even place one in the middle of a blouse... What is it about asymmetry that attracts us so much? It is dynam- ic, accentuated, striking and clear- ly lets us know that we don’t want to look like others; that we are striv- ing for originality and our own style, to attract attention. An asymmetri- cal piece confuses, compelling an in- terlocutor’s gaze to wander up and down, from left to right, in an at- tempt to interpret the whole. Each line and cut leads in a different di- rection. Fashion is much more than merely following trends; it is an en- tire philosophy that provides us with the opportunity to worldlessly state what we think, feel and where we are headed.
