Kanjon Trešnjice: Raj za ornitologe i ribolovce
TREŠNJICA CANYON: PARADISE FOR ORNITHOLOGISTS AND ANGLERS The River Trešnjica emerges on the southwest side of Povlen Mountain, from the range of the so-called Valjevo mountains, at an elevation of 1,185 metres above sea-level, and empties into the River Drina at an elevation of 179 metres. The canyon, which is classed as a protected natural area of exceptional importance in Serbia, is six kilometres long and more than 100 metres deep. A large part of the canyon is inaccessible to humans, which is why an attractive habitat was found there by the griffon vulture, a protected species of bird that nests on the cliffs of the canyon. There are about 30 pairs of these birds currently nesting there, and they survive thanks to the feeding grounds set up in Trešnjica Canyon. Thousands of young fish come to Trešnjica Canyon from the Drina to spawn each spring. They lay their eggs in the canyon, then several thousand young fish head back from there to the Drina. This is a natural phenomenon that’s unique in the world. It’s also why this place is considered a real paradise for ornithologists, anglers and all nature lovers.
Reka Trešnjica izvire na jugozapad- noj strani planine Povlen, na vencu takozvanih valjevskih planina, na vi- sini od 1.185 metara, a uliva se u Dri- nu na nadmorskoj visini od 179 me- tara. Kanjon je zaštićeno prirodno dobro Srbije od izuzetnog značaja, dugačak je šest kilometara i dubok više od 100 metara. Veliki deo ka- njona je nepristupačan za ljude, pa je tu svoje stanište našao belogla- vi sup, zaštićena vrsta ptica koja se gnezdi na liticama kanjona. Trenut- no je tamo oko 30 parova ovih pti- ca, a opstaju zahvaljujući hranilišti- ma koja su postavljena u kanjonu Trešnjice. U kanjon Trešnjice svakog proleća iz Drine na prirodni mrest dolazi ri- ba mladica. Ona u kanjonu ove reke polaže ikru, iz koje se potom u Dri- nu vraća nekoliko hiljada mladih ri- ba. Ovo je prirodni fenomen, je- dinstven u svetu. Zbog toga je ovo mesto pravi raj za ornitologe, ribo- lovce i sve ljubitelje prirode.
