LONG SUMMERS AND SUNNY DAYS There are many reasons for you to fly to Cyprus This is the home of the famous Halloumi cheese, the oldest wine in the world and the goddess Aphrodite. Cleopatra collected her herbs here, and you can also meet beings from other planets here...
THE MEDITERRANEAN’S MOST EASTERLY ISLAND, NES- TLED AT THE crossroads of Eu- rope, Africa and the Middle East, the great sea’s largest island after Sardinia and Sicily, which is divid- ed into two parts between the Turks and Greeks, but again has been in- fluenced the most by England... Cy- prus is, you will agree, a unique place that’s nothing like its fellow Medi- terranean islands. Summers last the longest on this island in the east of the sea, enduring for as much as eight months, while it
also has the most sunny days, so it’s no wonder that it’s an attractive des- tination for tourists until the end of November. If you fly to Larnaca you’ll be awaited by wonderful beaches and warm waters, but they aren’t the only reasons to visit Cyprus this summer. Here we provide at least three others... For romantics: Aphrodite and Cleopatra Cyprus has a wonderful nick- name. It is known as the Island of love. That’s primarily because, ac- cording to myth, it is the birthplace
of the most beautiful Greek goddess, Aphrodite. There, on a beach beside the impressive rocks between Limas- sol and Paphos, which you can reach only by land, the goddess of love was born from the sea foam, and you can still see that foam today, where the restless sea sprays the rocks. Chilled, wild and deep after only half a metre, the water changes colour depending on the time of day. And legend has it that if you swim three times around Aphrodite’s Rock, you will be wed within the following year. Try it if you are keen to marry – it can’t hurt!
