Professor of International Law and Regional Integration Law Dr. David Berry, a prominent expert in those fields, has demonstrated unwavering dedication to both research and teaching throughout his tenure at the university. Professor Berry practises in various areas of international law. He is currently serving as a Key Legal Expert with CARICOM’s Consultancy for the Review of Caribbean Community Institutions , as an Expert and member of the CARICOM Regional Advisory Group on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction , and as an arbitrator in an International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes . His peer-reviewed publications include eight journal articles, one independently authored monograph, one co- edited book, nine book chapters, and three technical papers. He has also published four non-refereed journal articles and three book chapters and has been invited to make over 80 academic presentations. His book Caribbean Integration Law (Oxford University Press, 2014) was widely cited in academic circles and before the Caribbean Court of Justice . His innovative approaches to pedagogy and commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge have positioned him as a leader in his field.
Professor of Family Medicine Dr. O. Peter Adams, former University Medical Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Cave Hill Campus, is lauded for his world-class clinical research addressing primary healthcare issues. His focus includes chronic non-communicable diseases and sexually transmitted infections, notably through the Eastern Caribbean Health Outcomes Research Network (ECHORN) , which gained international acclaim. Collaborating with Yale University , his research earned recognition and over $1.8M in grants. He is renowned for introducing web conferencing technology into medical education in 2006, thereby facilitating medical teaching to the Eastern Caribbean. Prof. Adams' contributions span publications, conference presentations, and leadership roles, notably ensuring re-accreditation of medical programmes at The UWI. The diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise represented by the five newest professors exemplify the commitment of the campus, and by extension the university, to fostering a rich and vibrant academic community. Professor of Music Dr. David Akombo is an internationally recognised educator, researcher and scholar in the fields of music education and interdisciplinary research in the arts and health, has consistently demonstrated a commitment to academic rigour and intellectual curiosity. Professor Akombo’s eclectic research interests include Music Education, Ethnomusicology, Community Music, Comprehensive Musicianship, Music and Cognition, Music Technology, Psychology of Music, and interdisciplinary Music and Biomedical Sciences. He is the author of 14 books and book chapters, over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and encyclopaedic entries published in The SAGE International Encyclopaedia of Music and Culture and Encyclopaedia of Society and Culture in the Ancient World . He has also produced several non-refereed publications.
