literary presentation that included an open mic, a mixology competition, and a concert. The 3 November event entitled The Artist(s) Within Showcase was held in recognition of Cave Hill’s’ 60 th anniversary. Chair of the anniversary celebrations, Dr. Henderson Carter said it was important to show another side of the campus. “This is a wonderful opportunity to show campus creativity. It shows the world we
are not just academics, writing essays and giving lectures, but there’s a lot of creativity among all sections of our staff and this creativity is on display. This inspires me and it inspires you.” The power of culture within any given community was noted by Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Frederick Ochieng’-Odhiambo who declared the event open.
“If one wants to destroy a community, destroy its culture. If you want to interfere with a community, all you need to do is interfere with its culture. At the same time, if one wants to understand and appreciate a given community, one must look at that community’s culture.” He deemed the extravaganza a great exemplification of the campus. u
