There is a lot of work to be done, and I have no doubt that the CELU's new Head, Ms. Alana Lancaster, is up for the challenge.” L ancaster said the intention is to establish the unit as a legal centre of excellence in environmental law, ocean governance and climate justice, which are three distinct yet interlinked thematic areas of importance to the region. To accomplish this, she said partnerships would be formed with local, regional, and international stakeholders and institutions.

As she congratulated the campus on this latest achievement, she said legal expertise was always needed concerning arrangements on the environment that involved the public and private sectors. u
“The unit aims to place our students, the university community, and our stakeholders at the centre of an indigenous and authentic Caribbean legal experience.” Senior Climate Change Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank’s Barbados Office , Jennifer Doherty-Bigara , indicated her institution’s willingness to collaborate with the unit. The IDB representative said such relationships will ensure that climate justice and environmental sustainability become a reality.
