workforce. The institution had linked this to the underrepresentation of students in business schools. With their support, Cross earned her PhD in Marketing from the University of California , Irvine in 2009. From there, the mother of two went straight into teaching at Iowa State University where she remains to this date. In May 2023, the award-winning scholar partnered with the School for Graduate Studies and Research at Cave Hill to stage four sessions with faculty and research students. A session was conducted on the topic “Reviewing Papers with Rigor and Sensitivity and Responding to Reviewers” . Workshops were also held on “Transformative Research” , and “How to Develop a Career-defining Thesis Topic” . For Dr. Cross, it was the fulfilment of her dream to give back. She had previously returned to the institution in 2019 to conduct a seminar on research methods and approaches but did not think this was sufficient.

“If I can assist The UWI, that would be my priority. I’ve been working with graduate students a lot at the thesis level and above. I’m doing it for all these graduate students elsewhere, so it’s pretty special to be able to come back to Cave Hill and help here. I also give back through The PhD Project. Service is not just at the department level or the college level, I do a lot of service in the wider academe level, like on associations, councils, and boards.”

In light of her experiences and what she has been able to accomplish, Dr. Cross has encouraged students to remain focused, and fully embrace the Cave Hill experience and the diversity it offers, much as she did. To this date, she has fond memories of some of her former lecturers like the late Wendell McClean, his sibling Maxine McClean, and Professor Justin Robinson. u
