age 8, but he pressed paused on his piano passion for nearly a decade (2003-2012) to venture into the vibrant hospitality industry. He honed his skills at The Hospitality Institute of the Barbados Community College and worked at various hotels in Barbados. However, his musical flame never flickered and he resumed his harmonious journey. H is achievements include Grade 2 in Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Music, as well as Grade 8 in Piano and Grade 7 in Theory from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) . As a seasoned performer, Dominic has entertained audiences at various venues across Barbados, including James Street
Methodist Church where he participated in the Barbados Classical Music Festival 2019 , St. James Parish Church, and St. Mary’s Anglican Church. Beyond his academic pursuits, Dominic demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by launching his music school and academy, DJ’S Music Studio , in 2019. Specialising in piano and music theory, the academy caters to students studying up to Grade 7 theory, Grade 8 in piano, as well as steel pan. Currently, Dominic provides mentorship to 8-10 students studying at either the CXC Level or the ABRSM, sharing his musical wisdom and passion. The unique opportunity presented to Dominic at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland not only enriched his personal and academic journey but also inspired him to aspire to the global music scene. Dean of the Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts, Professor David Akombo acknowledged that a current partnership between The UWI, Cave Hill and the University of Glasgow facilitated this remarkable training opportunity.
“The connection to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland was made through Professor William Cushley, Assistant Vice-Principal for International Programmes at the University of Glasgow , in consultation with Mr. Andrew Millington, Dr. Stefan Walcott and me from the Faculty of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts at the Cave Hill Campus who selected Mr. Dominic Serrao to attend the 2023 summer camp,” Dean Akombo shared. The experience was also made possible through generous support by the Glasgow- Caribbean Centre for Development Research (GCCDR) for which Professor Simon Anderson from the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre at Cave Hill is co-Director, sponsorship that not only enhanced Dominic’s musical proficiency but promises to enrich the lives of students he guides at DJ’s Musical Studio . u
