T hat’s how prominent while invoking the enduring lyrics of late calypsonian Black Stalin to remind Caribbean citizens of their shared heritage. The rector of St. George Parish Church, Barbados praised the Caribbean’s premier institution of higher education for its contribution to regional integration as Barbadian priest, Senator Rev. Dr. John Rogers described The University of the West Indies he delivered his sermon at an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the 75 th anniversary of The UWI and the 60 th anniversary of the founding of Cave Hill Campus. Rev. Rogers told the congregation, which included staff, retirees, alumni, friends, and well-wishers of the campus, that while the goal of full integration is yet to be achieved, the university has been facilitating the process for more than seven decades. “Our University of the West Indies has served as an agent of unity in this region, bringing people who were geographically isolated for centuries together and helping us to see, as the great Leroy [Black Stalin] Caliste said, that the Caribbean man is one race from the same place, who took the same trip on the same ship,” he said.
An agent of regional unity that has helped to drive Caribbean development!
