in the struggles of its people; that our leadership understands the journey: that the people who once walked in darkness must be enlightened as we go forward,” said Rogers, a member of Barbados’s Constitution Reform Commission. Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Cave Hill Campus, Professor Clive Landis , told the congregation that there is much to be thankful for. “The rooting in society of The UWI as a Caribbean institution with a clearly understood development mission, evokes the Ubuntu philosophy ‘I am because we are’. Our meaning and purpose as a university is derived in relationship to those around us, as a public university both for and of the people. “Let me therefore ask each of you, no matter whether you are a member of the university community in attendance today, or whether you are supporting The UWI from outside, to rededicate ourselves to the development mission of The UWI and pray, each according to our faith, that God will keep this university safe and prosperous far into the future as we deliver on our mission to advance learning, create knowledge and foster innovation for the positive transformation of the Caribbean and the wider world,” Landis said.
