Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill campus, who hosted the event, also contributed a chapter to the book titled “The Triple Three Threat to the Caribbean” with reference to chronic diseases, climate change and COVID-19. He said that the festschrift was fitting for one of the greatest intellects in the Caribbean. Barbados’s Ambassador to CARICOM David Comissiong echoed this sentiment in his reflections on Sir Hilary, whom he said was important to Caribbean civilisation. “Your contribution has made a tremendous difference to our society. Our society is so much richer by the fact that you … chose to come back here and to place your intelligence and your intellect, your energy and your services at our disposal, and we would forever be grateful to you.” The event also featured a musical tribute by Barbados’s Cultural Ambassador, Dr. the Most Honourable Anthony “Mighty Gabby” Carter , a longtime friend of Sir Hilary. Sir Hilary, who was visibly moved by the honour and received a standing ovation from the audience of friends, family, diplomats, and academics, said he was overwhelmed and thoroughly appreciated the honour. In his remarks, he shared some of his experiences and explained what kept him motivated over the decades, as he referenced advice rendered by his late father. “ You just do what’s in front of you. You get on with it, and do your best and help out. And that was always my perspective especially since, as an administrator of higher education, I could promote and assist in something that I believe in, which is making university education available to all .” u
Dr. Delisle Worrell former Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados
1 June in the Audine Wilkinson Library of SALISES at the Cave Hill campus. University Director of SALISES Professor Don Marshall expressed his department’s gratitude and highlighted the book's significance for both social and economic professionals and students with a keen interest in the region. He commended Dr. Worrell for skilfully intertwining key issues from his central banking career with the contentious debates found in academic journals. The book, published in January 2023, provides in-depth insights into the political economy effects of interest rate adjustments, tax policies, government subsidies, allocation of government expenditure, foreign reserves stockpiling, and government debt. Touching the intersection of Economics, Finance, Business and Industry, and Politics and International Relations, Dr. Worrell's book promises to be a pivotal resource for those seeking to unravel the complexities of economic dynamics in small open economies. u
