She added that Cave Hill has been active in promoting bilateral exchanges, and the books will be particularly useful to students who plan to participate in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme , under which holders of bachelor’s degrees are invited to teach English in schools in Tokyo from the elementary to senior high school levels. “Against this background, it is very timely that Japanese books arrived at this campus through the READ JAPAN PROJECT , which aims at promoting an understanding of Japan through the donation of books to [universities]. “I hope these books will provide a wider, clearer and deeper insight of Japan through the educational and cultural activities of The UWI, Cave Hill Campus, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the bilateral relations,” she stated. Ambassador Fukushima told the brief ceremony that she is also looking forward to the observance of Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year in 2024. A similar donation was made to The UWI, Cave Hill Campus in 2019, when the then Japanese Ambassador Teruhiko Shinada presented a collection of books to former principal, Professor Eudine Barriteau, the first such donation made to the campus. u
