Since taking auctions “live on line” I have taken to wearing a rose in my button hole to add some colour to the scene for the viewers. As I drove to the office on the 21st April in brilliant sunshine I felt in a light hearted mood thinking to myself that I will soon be able to

pick my own roses from the garden rather than buy them, added to which the streets were beginning to fill up with people and I could sense the general feeling of optimism now beginning to permeate around the city as lockdown eases. I appreciated the indominatable spirit of those people enjoying eating meals in the gutter, wrapped up against the cold and clearly having a most enjoyable time. This spirit and optimism was carried into the saleroom as I started the auction I could immediately sense the enthusiasm 5 . 1 £m with Lot 1, 100, East Street Bedminster – a Freehold mixed use Investment producing an income of £35,800 p.a. and with the potential for some residential development. With a guide price of £350,000 the bidding very rapidly rose in bands of £5,000 to £585,000 – a stunning result causing me so much excitement that I succeeded in knocking over my ubiquitous auction stage prop “The glass of water”! Despite soggy hands the rest of the auction proceeded apace resulting in a most successful evening and another £5m sale. I praise the spirit of all those interested in auctions whether as observers or serious buyers for adapting so quickly to “on line auctions” so readily – definitely a streamlined way forward and very soon we will be able to meet successful buyers in a pub!
