PETER BUREGA
THE GOLDEN HOUR
On view at TEW Galleries, February 20 – March 16, 2026
PETER BUREGA
TEW Galleries is proud to announce our inaugural exhibition of works by Peter Burega, an artist who currently splits his time between the Caribbean and New Mexico. Burega’s imposing and atmospheric abstract landscapes are deeply evocative of the natural world while at the same time eschewing a literal narrative approach. We are not shown trees, water, or sky, in any formal way and yet they present themselves in the essence of the work. The olive and dark tones redolent of marshlands in his work titled A Lark Sang Upon the Wind ; a sparkling scintillate of gold-orange sunlight in a mist of air and water in The Golden Hour ; or the frisson produced by a vision of warm, gold air rising from water in his painting, On a Hot Golden Day . Burega has recently come oE two highly successful 2025 shows in London, England, and Santa Fe, New Mexico and has dedicated the later part of 2025 in preparation for his exhibition at TEW. I am certain that our collectors will be as excited by Peter’s works as Corky and I are, and that they too, will be seduced by bold and subtle texture, rich and painterly palette knife treatment, the drama of his marks, and vibrant washes of glaze that bring depth and intensity to the artist’s surfaces. We hope to see you at the Opening on February 20 th ; 6.00 – 8.00 p.m. — Jules and Corky

The Golden Hour My work derives presence from natural elements that surround me daily. I take cues from the physical world: light, water, reflection, land, mass, clouds, volume. I do not consciously paint a specific place but at the same time my subconscious guides and filters my practice by considering the places I have visited and documented. ‘The Golden Hour’ is a body of work which began on the island of Sint Maarten and was completed in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is a story of history and the present. The consideration of how our lives are affected by the places where we live and visit. Both places could not be more different, yet they share an uncanny commonality when considered in my work. Each provides distant vistas and cloud formations that evoke a time long forgotten. Both exhibit a development that came about after exploration and religion brought a light both harsh and warm. Although Santa Fe is land bound, an island at 2000 meters above sea level, it still summons the depths of the inland sea that once surrounded its perimeter. Echoes of time, history, and splendid beauty infuse my work and the early light that rises in the Caribbean seems to thread its way to becoming a mountain sunset in the American West.
