VNA Continues To Mark 60th Anniversary With County Proclamation And Grant From Sedwick Foundation
T he Visiting Nurses Association, Western Pennsylvania (VNA) continued to mark its 60th anniversary with a proclamation from the Armstrong County Commissioners and a $30,000 grant from the Sedwick Charitable Foundation to enhance its technology and patient care systems. During an August meeting, the Armstrong County Commissioners recognized the VNA for six decades of service, presenting a proclamation declaring August 2025 as Visiting Nurses Association, Western Pennsylvania Month. Commissioners Anthony Shea and John Strate each shared personal reflections underscoring the organization’s deep impact on local families. Shea spoke of his mother, Rose Shea, who worked for the VNA in the Vandergrift office for 20 years. “Her dedication and commitment reflected the values that the VNA continues to uphold today,” he said. Strate shared that his mother received compassionate end-of-life care from VNA nurses. “The kindness and dignity shown to my family left a lasting impact,” he added.
Representing the VNA were Executive Director Margie Walsh, Assistant Director Suzanne Grove, and Home Health Manager Julia Lockhart. Walsh expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, “It is truly a privilege to provide care and support for families during some of life’s most challenging moments. We are deeply honored by this proclamation and the trust our communities continue to place in us.” That trust was further strengthened through a $30,000 grant from the Sedwick Charitable Foundation, presented in partnership with Armstrong. The funds will support critical technology upgrades—modernizing patient documentation tools, mobile systems for caregivers, and communication platforms that enhance coordination among patients, families, and clinical staff. “This generous support means so much to all of us at VNA,” said Walsh. “It allows us to improve how we Continued on page 10
