You will be responsible for completing your own race registration and payment. We will provide you with the site when it becomes available. This six-week course ends April 29. June Martin is a personal trainer and health coach, certified through the American Council on Exercise. Jacqui Foster has walked and run numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, and a marathon. HIS441 Why We Endure Wednesday, 3:15-4:45 p.m., Herring Center, Crabtree (HC110) As the U.S. approaches its 250th birthday on July 4, 2026, many Americans feel our democracy is at a pivotal crossroads that will determine the future of the American Experiment. This course will present an overview of our first 250 years with an emphasis on how our constitutional republic has repeatedly survived daunting challenges — thanks to fundamental values such as a government created by and for the people, adherence to the rule of law, separation of powers, and respect for fundamental freedoms. There will be a special focus on the role of the Supreme Court and politics in the emergence of our national persona. This three- week course begins April 29. Don Cockrill is a retired attorney and longtime OLLI instructor with a special interest in The Founding, Supreme Court, and American history in general.

PHO909 Outdoor Nature Photography

Thursday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Herring Center, Vick Seminar (HC102) Join us as we explore and photograph the beautiful outdoors and gardens of Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. Spring offers wonderful light, fresh landscapes, and countless opportunities to strengthen your photography skills while enjoying the company of fellow enthusiasts. Our time together will focus on creating images, learning new techniques, and developing a personal photographic style. Locations may require up to 3 miles of walking round trip, but the emphasis is on photography, not hiking—we’ll move at a comfortable pace that allows plenty of time to observe, compose, and capture meaningful shots. We plan to begin with an in-class session on key elements of outdoor nature and landscape photography, and we’ll conclude the course with a friendly critique session where participants can share and discuss their best work. Transportation to each location is flexible—participants may travel on their own or join a carpool from OLLI—but the heart of this course is the photographic experience. This class welcomes photographers of all skill levels and all types of cameras (including smartphones). Julie Martin has been taking photographs for many years and is slowly improving; she will be assisted by some very talented OLLI photographers. She has taken many hiking and photography classes since joining OLLI in 2021 and hopes to share some of the beautiful places of our area with others. Seth Harrison is a self-taught photographer and has been an OLLI member since 2002. His photo skills are rooted in manual cameras with sheet film.
