BTE119 Ten Things You Probably Didn't Know About Public Education in SC April 24, 10 a.m.-noon, HC110 Despite narratives focusing on “failing public schools,” South Carolina’s public education system—especially in Greenville—is making significant strides in student achievement and workforce development. But with so many people moving to the Upstate from other states, few understand just how complex the educational ecosystem is in the Palmetto State. From funding to testing, from teachers to students to nonprofit partners—our public schools represent a microcosm of the opportunities and challenges communities face. This interactive event will explore ten things you probably don’t know about public education in the state, with a particular focus on promising work that is happening right in our own backyard and how you can get more involved. Catherine Schumacher, an Upstate native, is a proud product of South Carolina’s public schools and a champion for public education, serving as President & CEO of Public Education Partners (PEP) since 2019. true to ourselves—but many of us were never taught what they actually are or how to set them. In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the essentials: what boundaries are, why they matter, and the common signs that yours may be blurred or overwhelmed. We’ll explore symptoms like resentment, exhaustion, people-pleasing, guilt, and feeling responsible for others’ emotions, as well as how strong boundaries can deepen—not limit—your relationships. At the end, you’ll be guided through a calming meditation designed to help you connect with your inner wisdom and set a clear, compassionate intention for healthier boundaries moving forward. Sarah Hope Troy, host of Roots of the Rise, is a Spiritual Mentor who utilizes her 10,000+ hours of training to empower individuals to awaken authenticity and cultivate lasting inner peace. Limit 45
