Lindblad Expeditions – Lindblad does not have a policy in effect and takes pregnant passengers on a case-by-case basis. They rely upon the opinion and advice of the woman’s own physician. (It also depends on the destination and trip that is chosen.) Lindblad does have a consulting doctor and, if a passenger will provide specifics, the information will be sent on to this doctor for his or her opinion. Un-Cruise Adventures – Women in their third trimester (more than twenty-four weeks, but less than thirty weeks) must submit a letter from their physician granting permission to travel by boat (and by air, if applicable). Sailing Vessels/Yacht Cruise Lines (Please be sure to confirm these with your agent/cruise line before booking, as they are subject to change.) Festiva Sailing Vacations – Festiva will accept guests in any stage of pregnancy as long as their doctor approves it. Star Clippers – Star Clippers, Ltd. regards third trimester pregnancy as a travel risk and reserves the right to refuse passage to pregnant women. Star Clippers, Ltd. will not be responsible or liable for any complications relative to such pregnancy arising or occurring during the entire cruise vacation. Chapter III Baby-Friendly Cruising: Should You Take a Nanny, or Use Onboard Babysitters and Kid’s Programs? Thinking of taking a cruise with a very young child or baby? Taking your own nanny is one way to go; however, if you are planning on using the cruise ship’s baby or child care facilities, read on. Most cruise lines have a minimum age for children to sail: ages range from three months to twelve years, depending on the cruise line. Be sure to verify this minimum age before booking a cruise. AmaWaterways – AmaWaterways cruises are primarily designed for the adult traveler. Children are allowed, but there are no child-specific programs or child-minding facilities. Minimum age to sail on AmaWaterways is four years old, but children aged 4–7 are not recommended. The minimum age for African cruises is twelve. Azamara Club Cruises – Azamara Club Cruises is primarily designed for the mature guest, so while the cruise line does welcome guests of all ages, no formal children’s programs or facilities are available on board their ships. Minimum age to sail on Azamara is six months old. On transatlantic, transpacific, Hawaiian, select South American, other selected cruises and/or cruise tours, and all cruises which include three or more consecutive days at sea, the infant must be at least twelve months old as of the first day of the cruise/cruise tour. Carnival Cruise Lines – Carnival’s Youth Program, Camp Carnival, is designed for ages 2–11, but children younger than two can play with the toys during designated family play times (parents must be present!). There are babysitting services during limited hours for children younger than two at Camp Ocean. Six months (twelve months for trans-ocean crossing and remote itineraries, where there are more than 2 consecutive days at sea) Celebrity Cruises – Celebrity cruises offer babysitting services in both the Fun Factory and individual staterooms. For a fee of $6 per hour per child, children aged 3–11 can participate in the Afternoon Party from noon to 2 pm on port days and/or the evening Slumber Party from 10 pm to 1 am.
