YOUR NEW WINNING STRATEGY TOUCH ALL THE BASES SO YOU DON’T MISS OUT ON THE LIFE’S WINS

On September 23, 1908, in a game against the eventual World Series Champion Chicago Cubs, Fred Merkle, a 19-year-old rookie of the New York Giants (yes, the name of a baseball team was the New York Giants at that time) was on first base, and Moose McCormick was on third base. There were two outs, and it was the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied 1-1. The next batter, Al Bridwell, drilled an apparent single into center field. McCormick ran home from third, and the game appeared to be over, a 2–1 Giants victory. Giants fans poured out of the stands and mobbed the field. Merkle, advancing from first base, saw the fans swarming onto the playing field. He turned back to the dugout to join the celebration with his teammates without ever touching second. The Cubs’ second baseman, Johnny Evers, noticed this, retrieved the ball, tagged second, and appealed to the umpire, who called Merkle out, nullifying McCormick’s run.

game playoff was played to decide which team would win the Pennant. The Cubs would win this game, eliminating the Giants.

Had the Giants won that September 23 game, the one-game playoff would have been unnecessary, and the Giants may have won the same 1908 World Series that the Cubs proceeded to win.

baseball history. Aaron got that home run the very first time he had a chance to hit the ball. He sent the ball over the wall. That gave him 714 home runs — the same as Babe Ruth. After that day, baseball fans held their breath every time it was Hank Aaron’s turn to hit. When would he hit home run number 715? The wait wasn’t long. In the second week of the season, Aaron again hit the ball over the wall. He had beaten Babe Ruth’s record. But first, he had to run around the four bases. The other players on his

team watched carefully to make sure he touched each one. If he did not, the home run would not have counted. There would have been no new record. To make sure your “home runs” will count in life, remember to touch all of the bases — but don’t stop with just the Foundational, Intellectual and Financial bases. You’ll just score a triple if you don’t pay it forward by contributing of your means to others and come back to “home” to make it all count. I wrote my book, “Entitlement Abolition,” to help you and your family touch all of the bases, to make sure you don’t lose out when maybe you thought you were hitting home runs with just your money.

It’s also about eliminating the entitlement mentality among children who may have been “born on third base” and grew up thinking they hit a “triple.” If you haven’t already, I invite you to order your copy of the book, free, because I’d love nothing more than to cheer on your family’s record-beating string of home runs.

MOUNTAIN BIKING IS A LOT LIKE LIFE RIDING THE TRAIL

On any given Saturday morning, you might find my wife, Heather, and me on one of the dozens of mountain bike trails above the Salt Lake Valley. We also like to head down to Moab to hit the trails under those famous red rock arches. As long as there’s no snowpack (and sometimes even if there is), we love to get away from it all and challenge ourselves on Utah’s mountainsides. It’s not all smooth riding — I’ve injured my neck, shredded just about every inch of skin on my arms and legs, and even had to outpace a dog that attacked me while riding! But it’s rewarding to combine our love of nature and our desire to push ourselves toward greater heights. I’ve often thought that mountain biking is a lot like life. We head out into sometimes familiar, sometimes all-new territory, looking for new experiences. We take on big tasks, stretching ourselves to strengthen our skills. We try to plan ahead to avoid injuries, but we accept that there will be bumps and bruises along the way. We take time to heal and then we get back out there again.

I’ve learned that, similarly, the 3 Dimensional approach to life helps us manage those ups and downs and prepare for a great ride. Whether it’s reinforcing values like accountability and responsibility with our daughters, making memories on Family Retreats with a Purpose, or planning for my family’s financial future with IUL LASER Funds, all of these principles have helped us navigate life.

I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had with my career to reinforce the values and strategies that have helped all of us in the Andrew family, as well as thousands of our clients across the country, pursue abundance in all 3 Dimensions of Wealth. Wishing you and your family a terrific ride!

DOING GOOD DOES YOU GOOD

BUILD THE COMMUNITY THROUGH GIVING

Volunteering not only strengthens the community but also benefits the person who serves. Specifically, we’ve found that working with less fortunate folks can help you and your family break out of the Entitlement Cycle. Here are a few more ways volunteering opportunities can benefit you! IMPROVES MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH When you do good, you feel good. Those positive emotions lead to emotional resilience, which helps you in the face of crisis or stress. They also decrease stress while increasing positive, relaxed feelings. Volunteering gives you a sense of meaning and appreciation, which can reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Volunteer activities also keep people moving. Whether it is carrying donation boxes, walking around the neighborhood, planting a community garden, or even cleaning litter from the roads, this moderate physical activity can help strengthen muscles, reduce blood pressure, and even alleviate symptoms of chronic pain. PREVENTS ISOLATION AND PROMOTES SOCIALIZATION In these post-COVID days, many of us face social isolation, and it can have negative impacts on our overall health. Volunteering is a great way to network with members of the community and meet new people. Likewise, after moving to a new neighborhood or leaving a career, it is difficult to find a new social group. But when you work with people toward the same goal, you may find you have common interests with other volunteers. You can even invite your family or friends to help, and strengthen your Foundational Dimension while doing something good for the community. GIVES A FEELING OF PURPOSE Sometimes as life changes and you grow older, your sense of purpose may begin to fade. Volunteering can help recharge a zest for life and may even motivate you to set and accomplish new goals. You can volunteer for many reasons, whether it’s to give back to the community, help the environment, or satisfy your own personal needs. No matter your motivation, it’s a great way to get out there and do some good both internally and externally.

WHY WE CAN’T BREAK THE CHRYSALIS

EMPOWERING OUR LOVED ONES TO TAKE FLIGHT

One year, Doug and Sharee designed an

cautioned the grandchildren — if you help break the chrysalis for the butterfly, it will die. The kids resisted the urge and cheered as the butterflies eventually took flight. How often do we feel that same urge to help our children break through their chrysalis? It’s tough being a parent. But all too often when we rush to relieve the struggle, we may end up facilitating their setbacks. When we step in to rescue, it can often create victims. This principle is at the heart of Doug’s book, “Entitlement Abolition.” As you look at your own family, consider the value of empowering rather than entitling your children or grandchildren. Remember to encourage your family to live in the zones of accountability and responsibility. And avoid robbing loved ones of their own opportunity to grow stronger and take life on … so they can eventually fly.

activity where they gave the children small jars with five caterpillars each. The kids watched in awe as the caterpillars made their cocoons, then waited with anticipation to see when

the caterpillars would emerge as Monarchs.

As noted in the June issue, every summer Doug and Sharee lead Grandpa’s Camp, a dedicated time for their 20 grandchildren to join them at their cabin. During the camp, they share conversations, teach important principles, and experience camping and high adventure. The older grandchildren help teach the younger ones the principles and skills they’ve learned, and it’s become a highlight of every summer for the entire family.

As the first of the caterpillars started to break through the chrysalis, the grandchildren were eager to help them with the process. It’s a natural reaction — when we see something struggle, we want to help it out of the problem immediately. While Doug and Sharee admired that helpful instinct in their grandchildren, they used the moment to teach an important lesson, one that may be counterintuitive. They

GET IN THE GAME TAKE YOUR TAILGATE TO THE NEXT LEVEL

One of the best parts of football season — other than watching your team dominate the scoreboards — is tailgating! It’s a great time filled with good food, drinks, friends, and family, and an ideal opportunity to make memories that will build up your Foundational Dimension. The basics are easy to remember (condiments, trash bags, silverware, etc.), but sometimes the innovative and ingenious hacks are what bring the tailgate to a whole new level. USE A TOOLBOX You can find these in just about any home improvement store and turn them into a tailgating kit filled with all of the essentials. From can openers and spatulas to trash bags and sunscreen, a toolbox can hold everything and anything you may need for the best tailgating experience.

It’s also great for keeping everything in one place. You can even keep it in your car so you’re ready to tailgate at any moment. FREEZE WATER BOTTLES Instead of having to constantly refill your coolers and spend money on bags of ice, you can actually freeze your water bottles. The frozen bottles will keep your drinks and other refrigerated items cool for hours, and then by the end of the game, you will have fresh, cold water to drink. SET UP A HAND-WASHING STATION This may be one of the most overlooked essentials in tailgating. Though some may settle for a simple hand sanitizer, if you’re cooking with raw meat and marinades, you’ll want to wash your hands with soap and water.

Rather than waiting in long lines and missing tailgating time, you can have a “hand-washing station” nearby so you don’t miss out on the action! An empty laundry detergent dispenser or a cooler with a water spout can be filled with warm water for rinsing your hands — just have soap and paper towels on standby. Try these tailgating hacks this coming football season — or any sporting season! Whether you’ve been showing up to the games for decades or you're hosting your first tailgating event, these genius hacks will make your next game easy, fun, and one for the books.

TIPS FOR MAINTAINING YOUR DAILY FOCUS

or stressful lives, worrying or planning can also make us feel more in control.

When mindful, we concentrate on what others say and become more fully present. We also start to notice the small things we usually overlook: the cool breeze on our skin, the sound of the birds, the feel of a sweater, or the sight of our loved ones smiling. Our lives become fuller. And our stress decreases because we’re not clinging to things beyond our command.

The problem with these strategies is that they don’t change anything. They help us discount the only thing we can control: what we do now. Life can pass you by that way if you’re not careful. The solution is to exist in the present moment as much as possible and enjoy the good things around us while we have them. Studies show that living this way makes people happier, healthier, and more likely to form strong relationships. But how do you even get started? The process requires a different way of thinking called mindfulness. Mindfulness is about focusing on what is happening in the present moment — not that work deadline, the movie you just watched, what’s for dinner, or the kids’ extracurricular schedule. It takes practice, and many people use meditation or breathing to help.

We can’t change the past, nor can we predict or guarantee the future. In the end, all we have is the present, yet most of us live our lives ignoring its many possibilities. It’s easy to tune out the life around you, especially if you do many of the same things every day. Taking care of the kids, commuting, working, and running errands can blur together. Just as bad, when life isn’t going the way we want, it’s easy to fantasize about how things “should” be or how they once were. When we live busy

As humans, we thrive on love and companionship — it’s integral to abundance in our Foundational Dimension. Whether it’s with our significant others, families, friends, work associates, or communities, the bonds we share impact our well-being. If you’re approaching your golden years or you love someone who is, keep in mind that socialization is especially important for seniors. According to a study from the Harvard School of Public Health, a healthy social life in your 50s and 60s slows down the rates of memory loss and deterioration. It also provides many other positive benefits. schedule, worry about family members, fear of shifts in the economy, or unstable current events overseas that keep you on edge and anxious, get out and do something! A night out with a friend or even just time spent chatting with a family member on the phone can help to reduce stress. INCREASES SELF-WORTH Social activities such as exercise classes, group dinners, walks with a friend, or events at a clubhouse are great ways to build friendships. While friendships are a two-way street, being on the giving side can help you feel needed and increase your self-worth. Being there for others is a great way to make you feel great about yourself, too! As a core part of your Foundational Dimension, engagement, socialization, and creating meaningful relationships are necessary components of being happy and healthy, especially as you age. So, sign up for water aerobics, take that group pottery class, go fishing with your friends, take your neighbor up on that walk, and go to that party! You just might have a great time, and you’ll never regret interacting with others!

WOULD YOU CHOOSE THE SWING OR THE CLUBS?

Top Financial Insights — for the Win

Imagine if as a golfer, you had the choice of using a professional golfer’s swing, someone like Jordan Spieth or legends like Jack Nicklaus, or you could use his clubs. Which would you rather use? The answer is obvious: the swing. Once you have a successful swing down, you’re capable of maintaining success. But all too often people look to whatever clubs the pros are using. They’ll buy the latest ones, designed with state-of-the-art technology and materials — rather than focus on adding to their knowledge and skill. Applying this to financial strategies, many well-meaning financial professionals focus on selling the clubs, or commodities — they tell their clients to buy this mutual fund, or open that IRA, or invest in gold or silver. Their clients comply with their financial professional and hope for the best. But those clients may be facing the awful reality down the road of outliving their money due to the impact of increased taxes, inflation, and the volatility of the market. At 3 Dimensional Wealth, we focus first on the swing: understanding the value of liquidity, safety, predictable rates of return, and tax advantages. Because we believe so strongly in this approach for ourselves, we believe in sharing this approach with others — in one-on-one meetings with clients, in speaking engagements nationwide, on our YouTube channel, and in our books. We believe you should have every opportunity to understand what different financial vehicles offer (the clubs), and we believe you should be empowered to take accountability and responsibility for practicing wise financial and Authentic Wealth habits (the swing).
