about the women of influence awards

The annual Women of Influence Awards, presented by Accenture and Avanade, recognize all finalists and honors the recipient in each category for their accomplishments and leadership roles in the fields of Information Security, Risk Management and Privacy. Selected by their peers through submitted nominations, all nominees have made important contributions to the community at large. Each year finalists are announced from each category and one award is presented in each of the categories at the awards ceremony. The Women of Influence Awards recognize women in five categories:

> Executive Of the Year > Corporate Practitioner > One-to-Watch > Private Solutions Provider > Public Sector/Academia

Judges select the finalists based upon a six-point set of criteria: > A positive influence on the professional community > The application of creativity or innovation in solving problems or overcoming challenges > A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards > A history of designing and implementing effective solutions > Sustained record of accomplishments and contributions to the field > Service as a trusted mentor and advisor to colleagues, students and others Congratulations to everyone nominated this year! It was a competitive year and the judging committee had some tough decisions to make. It’s quite an accomplishment to be selected as one of the finalists, given the number and caliber of truly accomplished women nominated for these awards.

Proud sponsors of the Women of Influence Awards

EWF CORPORATE AWARD

We are a people first company, committed to providing an inclusive workplace where employees feel comfortable being their authentic selves. This starts with our approach to inclusion and diversity and extends

into how we develop, mentor, reward and promote people. Avanade has pursued a purpose driven strategy around Inclusion & Diversity since our founding in 2000, with a strong focus on gender and the under representation of women in the tech industry. Our current strategy expands well beyond gender to make sure that every person at Avanade feels like they belong and are supported. We have made specific changes to our hiring practices to put diversity first and achieve our gender parity hiring goals, including using gender neutral job postings, expanding hiring profiles, unconscious bias training for all employees plus a 3.5 hour mandatory training for all interviewers. We have seen a real change in our population demographics because of this focus, with the representation of women growing year on year across all levels globally. There has been an increase in female representation on our Board of Directors from 17% to 60%, our Executive Committee from 23% to 45%, and female executive leaders from 22% to 26%. We continue to focus efforts on attracting and expanding our pipeline of talent achieving 40% female hiring globally (3,000 of 8,000 total hires) in the last fiscal year. Information Security roles are 29% female with 33% manager level or higher, many own and lead multiple security programs. To meet our growth ambitions, our approach to attracting and developing talent is changing. Our focus is on a sustainable approach as a true catalyst for change and we are investing in shifting our mindset from a talent consumer to talent creator. We know that global skills shortage is an ever increasing risk to strategic growth, and when we merge that with our commitment to becoming one of the most inclusive organizations in the world, we are preparing for this shift to our approach towards hiring for potential including life experience and industry expertise increasing our need to train for skills.

We believe that flexible working is the foundation of the workforce of the future. Our people have a real choice about when, where, and how to do their work, maintaining high performance and enabling positive work life integration. Flexibility is predominantly informal, worked out between our employees and their project teams. The objective is to help our people make the best of their work and their life, whatever that looks like for them. This is just the beginning to redesigning the workplace experience. As we embark on the future, we want to continue to push the boundaries, ensuring we are creating not just a diverse and inclusive atmosphere, but an equitable, more human experience and workplace, where everyone belongs. It is not about creating a singular program or policy focused on the latest trend, or simply adding new benefits, it’s about creating a globally consistent employee experience which underpins our commitment to creating a culture for growth that puts our people first.

CATALYST AWARD RECIPIENT The EWF recognizes Steve Katz for his incredible allyship

Catalyst Award

Steve Katz The recipient of the 2022 Catalyst Award is Steve Katz. Steve is the owner of Security Risk Solutions, and a board member and cybersecurity advisor to numerous companies. Steve Katz is the world’s first CISO. Citicorp hired Steve as the first ever Chief Information Security Officer in 1995 after the company had suffered a series of cyberattacks from Russian hackers. Steve had been

the head of Information Security at JPMorgan for the prior 10 years where he developed the skills and relationships that made him uniquely qualified to take the trailblazing role of CISO at Citicorp. Steve is a legend in the cybersecurity community, not only because he was the first CISO, but because he was ahead of his time in many ways. Steve understood that cybersecurity was not a technology issue, it was a business issue and a board imperative. He not only built the first cybersecurity organization, he was passionate about helping to educate others not only about the technology aspects of the role, but more importantly how to be a cybersecurity leader. Steve is universally admired for his decades of mentorship to current and future CISOs, and for his advocacy for advancing diversity in our field. Steve has been a male ally his entire career who has fought to give women equal opportunity and access in the workplace. He has mentored countless women throughout their careers, given them strategic introductions to opportunities and the confidence and skills to compete in a very male-dominated industry. Steve continues today to be the consummate statesman of our industry. Steve has a special place in the heart of the EWF, because it was he that Joyce Brocaglia first discussed forming the EWF with over two decades ago and as her mentor, he advised her to do so. We thank Steve for his leadership and support, and for being an incredible Catalyst within our industry.
