GAME TIME PEP TALK
When the Market Comes Back, We Will Be Ready What a difference a year makes. The calls for more capacity have been replaced with belt-tightening on budgets and labor costs across most of our service areas. The rapid growth in our markets over the last several years has had us scrambling to invest in our aging and stagnant capacity. A new truss plant in Caldwell, an automated line for door production in the Treasure Valley, and a second automated table at Jerome truss are some of the large projects we continue to move forward. Add in new delivery vehicles, forklifts, and building remodels and we will be well- positioned for expanded capacity when the market picks back up. Capital investments are critical to our long-term success, but they do not solve the immediate difficulties we are experiencing. The market conditions over the last few years forced us to focus exclusively on our existing customers, and that sometimes led us to focus on what was easiest for us. We have gone from begging vendors for products to sell, to having a glut of material, which now allows us to grow our single-family market share and develop our commercial/multifamily sales. I have always believed crisis creates opportunity, and this market downturn is our opportunity to get aggressive. As the University of Georgia Bulldogs’ coach said prior to the national championship game, “We ain’t getting hunted, guys. We are doing the hunting.” The Dawgs hunted and killed it on the field, and I am confident when this slowdown is over, we will have experienced a similar outcome — with slightly less confetti.
Aggression looks different in our world. We hunt opportunities; we do
not sit back waiting for business to come to us. Our business is built on relationships and trust and
takes time for a new customer to experience how we are better. Price moves the needle quicker, and
aggressive pricing gives us a shot at their business. But our aggressive approach is not just sales and pricing. When builders purchase materials from us, they get the experience of the entire Franklin team of employee- owners who are aggressive about making building easy. There is not a sales guy in the world who can do it by themselves. They need a team around them to execute and support that same company vision. The most important investments we can make are in ourselves and each other. As a sales guy, I will always believe the best defense is a good offense. I believe in our company, our mission, and the best choice any builder can make is Franklin Building Supply. We are investing millions of dollars to prepare ourselves for the next cycle, but it will take our entire team aggressively investing in themselves to navigate this downturn. Are you working on improving your skills so you can bring more value to yourself and the team? Are you guiding and watching over your fellow employees and operating in a safe, productive manner? Are you doing everything possible to ensure jobs are on time and in full, making things as easy as possible to ensure a remarkable customer experience? Are you working toward making us the company of problem-solvers that our 2026 vision strives for? If you need coaching to improve your offensive game, raise your hand. We are here to help.

HIGH FIVES
GUIDE From: Ty Eldred, Boise Supply Company To: McCall Ops A big shoutout to the gentlemen at the McCall store for bailing us out in a pinch. After our trucks had their accident in New Meadows, they were able to get our siding material delivered to the job sites so we could get our crews started on those jobs and finished before the weather shut things down up there. There is a reason they have been kicking butt all year up there; they are great guys to work with. Special thanks to Matt Farnsworth and the delivery guys who had the common sense and experience to say they needed the driveway plowed into the job site so we didn’t have another fiasco.
SAFE From: Trent McKnight
To: Greg Nicolaisen and Alex Wellard I would like to give a high-five to Greg Nicolaisen and Alex Wellard. These drivers were out doing deliveries when they noticed the Christmas lights to the entrance of Trueman Cove were a little to low. Instead of just pushing through, they pulled to the side and assessed the situation. They came to conclusion they were too tall and called dispatch to figure out a solution. That’s what ownership is about. Great job guys.
EASY From: Zac Luker, SCI To: Jared Evans, Jerome
This is for Jared Evans, who was asked to help me find some parts for Burley’s shelving. He did it quickly without complaint and then called me back within 10 minutes. He’s a great team player and an asset to the company. WOW From: Gryffen Hanson, Boise Dispatch To: Josh Swartz, Harley Beavers, and Sean Armstrong This morning, Harley Beavers and Josh Swartz brought a cash sale order to my attention ... The quantity of material seemed so odd that I immediately gave the customer a call to verify quantities listed ... I got Sean Armstrong at the front counter involved so we could figure out how much material the customer actually needed for the project. After calculations were done, the quantity dropped from 388 pieces of 12TW to 81 pieces, saving the customer $9,111.76. I really feel everyone involved in getting to the bottom of this issue knew their jobs well. As a result, they really WOWed a cash customer.
STRIVE From: Paul Ludwig, Pocatello
To: Drew Ruffridge, Pocatello Door & Finish I have had the best intentions to send out high- fives in the past; I just always get sidetracked. The last couple of years, Drew has done an amazing job managing the Pocatello door shop. In my opinion, our shop has never operated more efficiently than it currently does. That is a hard thing for me to admit because I managed the same door shop (haha). Just wanted to give a shoutout to Drew. He truly cares about taking care of the customers.
MEET JEFF CHRISTOFFERSEN
about the challenge of managing a complex location like Pocatello, which is our third-largest location with a large geographical area to service. However, we believe this is not the only reason he is pleased with the change. Jeff has commuted an hour-plus twice daily for two years as he traveled from Pocatello to Burley. Now, his commute is a whopping 10 minutes, giving Jeff much more time with his wife of
Our New Pocatello GM
We are proud to introduce Jeff Christoffersen as our new general manager of our Pocatello, ID, location. Over his many years with us, Jeff has been quite the utility player. Jeff started with Franklin in 1994 as a delivery driver and load builder at our Caldwell location. In his career spanning 28 years, Jeff has moved from that driver position to inside sales, night-crew supervisor, dispatcher, estimator, sales manager, and installed sales manager. Jeff was also tasked with buying trucks and forklifts for the company for years. In 2019, Jeff was promoted to General Manager, first for our Fruitland location, then Jeff moved to manage our Burley location in 2021. Jeff excelled in both locations as a leader and a coach. If you know Jeff already, you know he is a hard charger, and he never lets much grass grow. Yet, like any good coach, he cares for his team and strives to help them excel and improve. For this reason, we are excited for Jeff to manage our equally hard- charging team in Pocatello. It’s a great match. Likewise, Jeff is excited
two years, Melissa, their combined 11 children, ages 7 to 28, and their three grandchildren, who are 5 years old, 2 years old, and 6 months old. We are excited to see the continued growth of Pocatello as Jeff Christoffersen builds on the hard work of his predecessor. Jeff is replacing Danny Green. While Danny is retiring from the GM position, he will still be a member of our Franklin family for a few more years. He’s choosing to work part time as Pocatello’s newest Account Coordinator until his wife retires. We appreciate Danny’s years of service and are glad we don’t have to say goodbye just yet.

EO COLUMN Two Things Staying the Same
There will be many changes across the
HighFive@franklinbuildingsupply.com. I ask huddle leaders to add an open floor gratitude circle to the morning huddle at least once a week to help voice gratitude. The second point is a continued improvement to our Near Miss Program. We achieved our target DART rate for 2022, and participation in the Near Miss Program was a factor in achieving this goal. Near Miss 2.0 rolled out last year at Boise/Jerome Truss Yard and Sawtooth Door. As GMs adopt this new version of the program, the improved data mapping will clear a path to achieve this year’s DART rate goal of 2.0. GMs not using the updated Near Miss Program can coordinate with John Moore to begin adopting the updated program. This will allow him to map data precisely to the locations and provide a QR code to the Near Miss form.
company in the coming months as we shape our path toward the 2026 vision,
including how the EO committee communicates/ supports ownership culture. Before introducing changes, I want to highlight two points that will remain the same — High Five Awards and the Near Miss Program. I enjoy seeing each High Five submitted because they connect our “Thinking Like an Owner” culture and reward choices and processes that fit the “Interdependent” column of the Dupont- Bradley curve. We would like to see an increase in High Five submissions to support this mission. High Fives will continue to be showcased in our newsletter, and we will be adding the award to Paylocity. The High Five categories are EASY, WOW, GUIDE, STRIVE, and SAFE, and they should be emailed to

His passion is helping others every day on the job, and he displays positivity, skill, and prowess. “My largest challenge is during the winter on the job site,” Michael tells us. “The ice and snow can be dangerous and difficult to navigate safely. My favorite part of my job is the variety I experience.
