February 2023 TPT Member Magazine

A NOTE FROM SYLVIA This February, in celebration of Black History Month, TPT shares the stories of Black leaders, communities, organizations, and movements, and their critical role in shaping America and its history. Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World , a four-part series developed by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, premiered on Tuesday, January 31 and will continue airing at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evenings through February 20 on TPT 2. The series tells the story of hip hop as an organic expression of experience that is unapologetic, fierce, and empowering. Additionally, the new hip-hop focused season of Sound Field produced by TPT for PBS Digital Studios explores hip-hop's music theory, production, history, and culture. Sound Field will release episodes on February 1, and you can watch the new season at youtube.com/SoundFieldPBS . For those who want even more history-focused programming, the four- part series, Making Black America , hosted by Henry Louis Gates, will air as a block on February 19 beginning at 1 p.m. The series chronicles the vast social networks and organizations created by and for Black people. Following the series, you can watch Ida B. Wells: American Stories , which shares the life of the 19th-century investigative journalist, civil rights leader, and passionate suffragist. In addition to Black History Month, we are also celebrating the release of new episodes of SciGirls , the Emmy Award-winning PBS television series produced by TPT. SciGirls explores, encourages, and educates children around science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), with new episodes focusing on space science. Episodes will air Fridays at 12:30 p.m. beginning February 3 on TPT 2. The episodes were filmed in Minnesota, and focus on Indigenous astronomy and long-duration space travel. At TPT we strive to bring you programming that entertains, educates, inspires, and reflects the diversity of our state and nation. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
