All this means Andrew ended the year fifth in the championship standings and played a major part in BMW successfully winning the Manufacturers’ title against competition from Honda, Vauxhall and Subaru. Whilst the conclusion of the season provides the chance for a break to recharge the batteries, focus will soon turn to 2019 as Andrew and Pirtek Racing embark on the next stage of their partnership together. An extension to the long-standing relationship between Pirtek and the Jordan family will begin, with championship silverware very much being the focus of the new season.

A strong score at Knockhill in late August was therefore vital for Andrew’s title challenge and third on the grid set him up well for the three races, when poor weather conditions threw an added challenge into the equation. Having been concerned about how the BMW would perform in the wet, race day proved the opposite as Andrew ran strongly throughout, picking up fourth in race one before securing his 20th career victory in the second race of the weekend. A further podium in race three gave Andrew a haul of nearly 50 points from the weekend and launched him right back into contention heading to Silverstone for the penultimate meeting of the year. Unfortunately for Andrew, a weekend that promised much after a strong showing in qualifying would ultimately fail to deliver, with mechanical issues on race day cruelly bringing his championship challenge to an end. After a throttle issue robbed him of what looked to be a sure-fire podium finish in race one, power steering trouble in race two – and contact on track – meant another non-score, with a solid run through to ninth in race three being little reward for the speed he had shown on track. where the action had kicked off back in April, Andrew duly produced a fine performance in race two, picking up his sixth podium finish of the year; the highlight of a solid weekend on track where he secured a hat-trick of top finishes.
