Il PLA è un polimero biodegradabile, derivato dallo zucchero attraverso un processo di fotosintesi, idrolisi e successiva polimerizzazione. Lo zucchero necessario per produrre il PLA non proviene necessariamente dal mais, come per il materiale usato da Poloplast: può essere sintetizzato anche a partire dalla canna da zucchero, dalla barbabietola o dal grano. Non solo il PLA è una materia prima ecologica, ma la produzione stessa di questo materiale è eco-friendly. La gamma Poloplast in PLA non contiene né OGM né materiale genetico, ma, soprattutto, non deriva dal petrolio. I prodotti in PLA mantengono inalterate le caratteristiche di brillantezza, rigidità ed idoneità al contatto alimentare delle plastiche tradizionali e sono conformi al Regolamento UE n. 10/2011 (e successive modifiche), oltre che alla norma UNI EN13432 relativa ai materiali biodegradabili. Il PLA può essere smaltito tra il rifiuto umido, nelle discariche, nella differenziata come rifiuto compostabile, o riconvertita in acido lattico e riutilizzata per scopi produttivi. PLA is a biodegradable polymer, derived from sugar through a photosynthesis process, hydrolysis and subsequent polymerization. The sugar needed to produce the PLA does not necessarily comes from the corn, as for the material used by Poloplast: it can be also synthesized starting from the sugar cane, the beet or grain. PLA is not only an ecological raw material, but also the production of this material is eco-friendly. Poloplast range in PLA does not contain GMO or genetic material, but, above all, it doesn’t come from Petroleum. PLA products maintain unchanged the features of brilliance, stiffness and suitability of traditional plastic materials for food contact and they comply with EU Regulation no. 10/2011 (and following edits), as well as the UNI EN13432 relative to biodegradable materials. PLA can be disposed in the wet waste, in landfills sites, as compostable waste, or converted into lactic acid and reused for productive purposes.
