Protests in this city echoed those of other major cities. But their intensity increased after Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old Black male, was shot and killed by Atlanta Police Ocer Garrett Rolfe on June 13. Rolfe was red and charged for 11 crimes, including aggravated assault and felony murder. Rolfe’s partner, Devin Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault and placed on desk duty. Denver Protests surrounding Arbery, Floyd and Taylor’s shootings prompted renewed interest in the case of 23-year-old Elijah McClain. McClain was a 23-year-old Black male who died in 2019 after Aurora police ocers placed him in a choke hold and injected him with 500 milligrams of ketamine. Protests demanded justice for the ocers involved. ALmost a year later, on June 13, the re-opened investigation led to re-assigning Ocers Nathan Woodyard and Jason Rosenblatt, and later Randy Roedema, to desk duty. Colorado Governor Jared Polis also signed a police accountability law, banning the use of the carotid choke hold and including a list of changes to rules for police use of force. Kenosha, WI At the time of this article, protests are rising around Jacob Blakes’ killing. Blake was a 29-year-old Black male shot seven times by a Kenosha police ocer. e three ocers involved in the case have been placed on administrative leave. Protests continue to grow in the week following the shooting.
