FLOWERS

APRIL 2021 HIGHLIGHTS

Maintenance – continue cleaning beds and keeping them free of weeds. As temperatures begin to warm up some of the flowers will begin to fade out as color starts to die out we will gradually begin removing burnt out color

Notes:

* April is an ideal month for plant growth in the landscape. Expect lots of growth on turf and land- scape shrubs. Mild temperatures make this an ideal time for new plantings before more extreme sum- mer temperatures. Bermuda grass will be coming out of dormancy and begin active growth this month. Fertilize to promote growth and begin transition from ryegrass that will begin to decline as temperatures rise. Adjust irriga- tion as temperatures rise and watch for hot spots. Rapid growth should be expected on most shrubs so prune accordingly. Pests are common this month so monitor plants and treat, as necessary. Annual flowers may begin to decline if temperatures rise above 90 degrees. Increase irrigation as neces- sary and watch for pests and disease. Most winter annuals are removed by the end of the month to prepare beds for planting summer annuals in early May.
