good gifts are ours through the Lord Jesus. From Isaiah we learn that as water quenches our thirst, so the Lord Jesus satisfies our thirsty souls. And as food gives strength and energy to our bodies, so Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life for our souls. As the voice of a parent is sweet to us, when we hear Mother or Father calling us to receive some gift, so the voice of the Lord Jesus is precious as He •calls, “Come unto me.” He wants us to come to Him, so that we can receive Him in our hearts. Have we received the Lord Jesus? Object Lesson B uying B read OBJECTS: Four large round buns, a small flask-shaped bottle filled with vinegar, an imitation playing card, an imitation dance program, an imitation theater ticket, an imitation cigarette, and a very small New Testament. (Cut a circle around the bottom of each bun, remove the piece, and hollow out the inside. Fill each bun as explained be low, replace bottom, and seal it with transparent mending tape.) LESSON: All these buns look as if we might be planning a picnic. But we are not going to talk about a picnic. We are going to talk about something of far more value to us than any picnic could possibly be. We are going to talk about the bread upon which we feed. Just as we eat bread to make our bodies grow strong, so we have food for our souls. These buns represent the food Habakkuk 1:12 Art thou -not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? W e shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment) and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. 13 Thou art of purer eyes than to be hold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and boldest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? 14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? 15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. 16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag) because by them their portion Is fat, and their meat plenteous. 17 Shall they therefore empty their net,: and not spare continually to slay the nations? 2:1 I will .stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the LorA answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon the' tables, that he may run that readeth It.................. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though It tarry, wait for It) be cause It will surely come, It will not tarry. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted op

her Invitation quickly. God our heaven ly Father is Wiser and more loving than any earthly parent. He knows what is best for us. He has lovelier plans for us than we can think of, for He says, ‘‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and .m y thoughts than your thoughts” (Isa. 55:9). He provides not only for the bqdily needs of His children, but for the needs of their souls as well. HoW does He do this? LESSON STORY: Our lesson today is from the Book of Isaiah, and Isaiah lived many years before the Lord Jesus Christ was on earth. But every single part of today’s lesson makes us think of Jesus! upon which people are trying to nourish their souls. The first one contains a bottle of whisky. I am reminded of the words of Isaiah 55:2: “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not?” Whisky can neither feed our hearts nor satisfy them. Look at the inside of the second bun —a playing card, a dance program, and a theater ticket! These things represent pleasure. It is foolish indeed to think that the soul can be fed on such things, but many people are spending their time and money for them. The next «bun contains an imitation cigarette. I would not want to get this close to a real cigarette, for if I never tokch a real one, I will never learn to smoke it. How foolish it is for people to try to satisfy the hunger of their souls by smoking! Let us see what is in the last bun— a New Testament. When I open this Testament, I find it tells me about Jesus, the bread of Heaven, who satis fies the soul’s hunger. (See John 6.) Is not upright In himt but the fust shall live by his faith. LESSON TEXT* Hab. 1:12-17) 2:1-4. GOLDEN TEXT : «The just shall live by his faith” (Hab. 2:4). DEVOTIONAL READING: Hab. 3:1-4, 17-19. Outline and Exposition L T he O bject of F aith (1: 12) I N HIS doubt and darkness, Habakkuk turned to contemplation of the liv ing God, who alone is the object of true faith. He is the eternal God. What ever conditions Habakkuk faced were no surprise to God. And, inasmuch as He, is the Holy One, sanctified in Him self and in all His actions, whatever occurs merely furthers His eternal pur poses. He is the everlasting God. An cient Jewish tradition translates the phrase: “Thou diest not” (cf. Psa. 90:2). .. Hence, whatever events confronted Habakkuk were all ordained by the mighty God. For judgmeixt and for cor rection all things were established by Him (cf. 2 Ki. 19:25; Psa. 17:13; Isa. 10:5-7; Ezek. 30:25). Faith can well affbrd to rest in such a God as is
