stacle removed from their path. No man in our generation could speak on foreign affairs with such persuasiveness as did Senator Borah. DYING AT THE TOP: Like the great peoples of the past, the American “race” appears to be dying at the top. Selfishness and interests of self-indul gence are responsible for the refusal of the middle and upper classes to shoulder their share of racial responsibility. The recent White House Conference on Children in a Democracy reported that “children as a group constitute the most needy segment of the popu lation.” A very small percentage of the children of the nation are found in homes which adequately could care for them. On the other hand, “nearly three-fourths of our city child popula tion is found in families either on relief or with incomes of less than $1,500 per year.” Only 1.4% of the child popula tion was found in families with incomes of $5,000 or over. It is stated that 26% of the children of the nation are in families with four or more offspring. A family with four or more children is counted “a large family” ; 42% of the “large families” of the nation are on relief! An additional 20% had incomes of less than $1,000 per year. Thus, 62% of the children in “large families” are growing up under conditions which make difficult, if not impossible, the providing of the very necessities of life. Contrary to popular presumption, the birth rate has not increased among families in the lower income brackets. It actually has decreased, but only slightly in comparison with the tre mendous drop in the birth rate among the middle and upper classes. The birth rate' per thousand married couples for our entire population today is less than 50% of what it was in 1880.

This is what the term yieldedness properly means. It is the voluntary surrender or self-offering of the heart, by the constraint of love to be the Lord’s. Its glad expression is, “I am my Beloved’s.” It must spring, of course, from faith. There must be the full confidence that we are safe in this abandonment . . . that we are not surrendering ourselves to the hands of a judge, but that we are sinking into a Father’s arms' and stepping into an infinite inheritance.—A. B. Simpson. 29. Divine Triumph “ O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory ? . . . Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:55,57). The cross is a triumph, which began when Christ cried: “It is finished.” It is the beginning of a triumphal pro cession in which Christ moves on through the world in hidden glory, lead ing captivity captive, leading into liberty His ransomed ones. And the believer can now rejoice, “Thanks be to God, which always leadeth us in triumph in Christ.”—Andrew Murray. He Knows—He Cares “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me” (Isa. 49:16). It matters to God about you! He meaneth to see you through! The might of His hand no power can withstand. He always is thinking of you! —Selected. 30.

28. “My Beloved’s” “Thy people offer themselves willingly In the day of thy power” (Psa. 110:3, R.V.). B I B L E S
