LIGHTING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION

Working for you and your business The LIA are constantly working on your behalf through a wide range of specialist committees. This activity helps to support the Association in identifying areas for improvement and change whilst providing a platform for meaningful knowledge transfer to membership. Each committee focuses on specific areas, meeting regularly throughout the year, ensuring relevant trends, technology, legislation and knowledge is captured and shared whilst acting as advisors to shape the future of the LIA. Listed below are all the committees working on your behalf. If you would like to learn more, and/or contribute, please contact a member of The LIA. • Technical Board

• ICEL Council • Marketing Committee • Government Affairs Committee • Finance Committee

• Light Sources • Building Regs

At the LIA we run schemes where we audit our joining members who use in-house equipment such as Gonio photometers and integrated spheres, and we audit based on capability, process, and test result comparison, and on successful audit they are then classified as holding accredited certification. This is because the LIA are accredited specifically for providing and auditing these schemes. Only certification bodies can hold themselves as just accredited. With Certification, your product has been verified either by physical testing, evaluation or inspection by an accredited third party. This is generally what buyers and border control require when importing any electrical goods. So if your lighting product caught a buyer’s eye and they wanted to place an order for their hotel in Saudi, well you will need to provide certified paperwork that is recognized by the SAE government as each country has its own conditions and requirements which is reflected in the standards they require. There are many certification schemes that are available to access for entering international markets, these are the most common routes taken within the lighting industry and are a part of the certification services offered by the LIA. Our Certification team at the LIA are on hand to help you access the certification requirements that you need.

Photometry testing – Measure and review the photometric performance of your products

CB Certification – The easiest way to ensure your products are accepted at customs

When placing a product on the market (UK or EU) there are legal requirements you must meet. Before a company can place a CE or UKCA mark on a product they shall complete a Declaration of Conformity which states the relevant Directives/Regulations that the product complies with. Along with this Declaration of Conformity there shall be supporting evidence and a risk assessment. The most common supporting evidence are reports and certificates to the relevant harmonised standards (EN 60598 Series for luminaires). Full reports and certificates to the harmonised standards outline either compliance or areas of non-compliance. These reports can then be used to form the risk assessment and justify deviations from the standard or state full compliance. Why use LIA Laboratory? Your test reports and certificates are your piece of mind. You want to have confidence in the reports you use to declare safety before you place a product on the market. LIA Laboratory are here to give you that piece of mind and help get your products to market and ensure you have all the documentation required to meet your legal requirements. All LIA members receive a discount for testing at LIA Laboratory as well as having access to the laboratory staff to help in technical matters.
