Barrett Cattle & Mill Brae Ranch - Annual Bull Sale [3/27/26]

HEALTH PROGRAM 3-month-old calves: ✓ Ultrabac 7 ✓ Bovishield Gold One Shot Yearlings: ✓ Complete BSE ✓ Synanthic 22.5% Oral Drench ✓ Clean up II Pour On ✓ Vira Shield 6+ VL5 HB 18-month-olds: ✓ Complete BSE ✓ Dectomax Pour-on All bulls have been tested and are negative for P1 BVD. BULL DEVELOPMENT The fall bulls are weaned at approximately 200 days of age, with no creep, and are dry-lotted for 2 to 3 weeks before being turned onto brome pasture. These 2 to 3 weeks would be the only time they are dry-lotted until sale week. Approximately May 1, they are hauled to native grass until the first part of October. At that time, they are brought closer to home and run on a fescue mix pasture with a restricted supplementation mix of rolled corn and dried distiller’s grain, along with limited brome hay, usually starting in mid- December. The spring bulls were weaned on 9/2/2025 without creep feed, and have been developed on free-choice brome hay, along with limited supplementation. To ensure fertility, all bulls must pass a complete BSE at 13- to 14-months of age, and then again prior to the sale by Dr. Adam Lukert of Saint Mary’s Veterinary Services.

Retaining 1/3 semen interest on every bull in the sale. Buyers will take full possession and 100% salvage. Our sole bull cooperators at Rocking A Ranch, of Mullinville, Kansas, have purchased females from us for years, and follow our matings, using our culling protocols and scoring criteria on the dams. Bulls in this sale that were calved at their ranch are designated by an ‘A’ after the bull’s number. We assume ownership of these bulls at weaning, bringing them to our ranch to be developed.

THERE IS NO DOUBT WE COULD ACHIEVE HEAVIER WEANING AND YEARLING WEIGHTS, BUT WE HAVE CHOSEN TO LET THE BULLS DEVELOP AND GROW AT A SLOWER PACE VERSUS PUSHING THEM. OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IS THIS WILL PROVIDE OUR CUSTOMERS WITH BULLS THAT WILL LAST LONGER. “
