Barrett Cattle & Mill Brae Ranch - Annual Bull Sale [3/27/26]

BULL DEVELOPMENT The bulls were weaned in late August with no prior creep feeding, ensuring a natural, forage-based start to development. They have been grown on a high-roughage TMR ration designed for an average daily gain of approximately 3 pounds, promoting sound, steady growth without excessive condition. To maintain physical fitness and breeding readiness, the bulls are managed in a large trap that requires regular movement between feed and water. This daily exercise supports athleticism, structural integrity, and long-term longevity. HEIFER DEVELOPMENT Heifers were weaned in late August with no prior creep feeding and developed on a high-roughage TMR ration. This approach allows for appropriate growth without excessive condition, ensuring females are sound, functional, and ready to thrive in a wide range of production environments. LOW STRESS HANDLING We believe in low-stress cattle handling and manage both bulls and heifers on foot, horseback, and with the help of Roxie, our trusted cow dog. This consistent, calm approach results in cattle that are gentle, well-mannered, and easy to handle. HEALTH PROTOCOL At Mill Brae Ranch, herd health and management are top priorities. Our comprehensive health program is overseen by Dr. Karl Lukert, DVM, and Dr. Adam Lukert, DVM, of St. Marys Veterinary Services. All bulls have undergone a complete Breeding Soundness Exam (BSE), and exam papers will be provided to buyers at check-out. Heifers have also undergone a complete palpation and Breeding Soundness Exam. All sale cattle have received appropriate pre-breeding vaccinations, are freeze-branded for clear identification, and have tested P.I. negative for BVD. GUARANTEE At Mill Brae Ranch, we stand behind the fertility and soundness of our cattle. Each animal has undergone a complete Breeding Soundness Exam and is guaranteed fertile to the best of our knowledge at the time of sale. If a bull sustains an injury during his first breeding season that renders him functionally infertile, we will provide a satisfactory replacement if one is available. If a replacement is not available, a credit equal to the purchase price minus salvage value will be issued and may be applied toward the purchase of any future animal offered for sale by Mill Brae Ranch.

If a heifer fails to breed during her first breeding season, a credit equal to the purchase price minus salvage value will be issued and may be applied toward the purchase of any future animal offered for sale by Mill Brae Ranch. If you experience any issues with an animal purchased from us, please contact us promptly. We are committed to customer satisfaction and will work with you to reach a fair resolution. RETAINED INTEREST Mill Brae Ranch reserves the right to retain a one-third (1/3) semen interest in all bulls offered in this sale unless otherwise noted. The buyer will receive full possession of the bull and 100% of the salvage value. This retained semen interest applies only if the bull becomes a candidate for semen collection and sales at a future date. Any semen collection or marketing would be arranged by mutual agreement, and the buyer will retain full use and control of the bull during his breeding career. If you have any questions regarding retained interest, please feel free to contact us.

TARGETING THE BRAND™: CARCASS QUALITY MATTERS Sire-identified carcass data from more than 8,600 records in the American Angus Association database has established key genetic benchmarks for achieving Certified Angus Beef® (CAB) acceptance. Research shows

that meeting minimum thresholds for Marbling (Marb) and Grid Value Index ($G) results in an average of 50% CAB acceptance. While a sire’s genetic potential is only one factor in a calf crop’s marbling performance, these benchmarks provide commercial cattlemen with a reliable starting point for selecting genetics that can earn premiums on quality beef grids. For producers looking to make more significant carcass advancements—or for those already achieving 50% or higher CAB acceptance—higher selection criteria beyond the Targeting the Brand™ baseline may be beneficial. Bulls displaying the Targeting the Brand™ logo meet or exceed a minimum Marbling EPD (Marb) of +0.65 and an Angus Grid Value Index ($G) of +55, ensuring their genetics align with quality-driven beef production.
