AFFORDABLE HOMES
With its soaring chimney and historical clock tower, Horlicks Quarter, an inspiring new development in Slough, is creating a wonderful new community where refurbished historic buildings and new homes sit side by side, surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and tranquil water features. It doesn’t get better than this! IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN!
be artisan markets, art exhibitions, music events and much, much more, so something for all the family to enjoy. Located only half a mile from Slough railway station and the Elizabeth Line, it only took me around 20 minutes from central London to get there, so ideal for a quick commute. Slough’s town centre is a short eight-minute walk away where you can find a range of shops, supermarket – I was tempted to pop into the huge Tesco, which is the largest in Europe – and a selection of pubs and restaurants. So, if you think this all sounds way out of your budget you will be mistaken. Prices for one bedroom apartments are from £100,625 for a 35% share with a full market value of £287,500 – the monthly rent is £428 and £149 for the service charge. A two bedroom apartment is from £127,750 for a 35% share with a full market value of £365,000 – the monthly rent is £544 and £207 for the service charge. I really was buzzing after I visited Horlicks Quarter – it’s so near to London but I felt I was in my own quiet oasis. It’s home from home, but offers so much more.
I am not usually lost for words – in fact I’m known to be a chatterer – but when I recently visited Horlicks Quarter I ran out of adjectives to describe this exciting new development. I was totally inspired and these lovely apartments by Abri Homes are also affordable through shared ownership, so they tick every box. Many of you will know of Horlicks, the bedtime drink; well this is where it was made for many years and the development has not forgotten its great history. The iconic chimney and clock tower still stand, proud and tall, and the development blends seamlessly into this bygone era. Aquifer House brings a collection of 104 one and two bedroom apartments spanning 10 floors, and all come with outside space – either a large balcony or terrace (the terrace is about the same size as my garden – incredible!), and many have stunning views. With such a high specification, the homes are light, spacious and beautifully fitted out with Bosch integrated appliances in the kitchen. The open-plan kitchen/diner is big enough to easily take a table and chairs, and some apartments have a built-in breakfast bar. Bedrooms have a fitted wardrobe and the hotel-style bathrooms and en suites
are luxurious and even have a large rain shower plus a smaller shower – it’s luxury living at its best! Horlicks Quarter boasts some very exclusive residents’ facilities too, including a 12-hour concierge, fully equipped gym, games room with a pool table, private dining area, cinema room complete with reclining chairs, perfect to watch the latest blockbuster, and a lovely rooftop garden where I was amazed I could clearly see Windsor Castle in the distance. For those who work from home and want the ideal work-life balance, then the co-working space offers the perfect environment to work and socialise. I really need to know the name of the landscape gardeners as their choice of plants and flowers is exquisite and throughout the development the tranquil water features complete the picture perfectly. The Factory Café, which looks out on to some pretty coloured fountains, is at the heart of the development and the perfect spot to meet the neighbours and socialise and do try the coffee and cakes – yummy! There is a real sense of community here and at Clocktower Place, the focal point for all the activities on offer here, there will
