What a great time to be in the beef business! As price ceilings shatter across the beef industry, we couldn’t be more excited to be in the cattle business. As producers, we haven’t always received the “better end of the cow” from the markets, but it sure feels good to have some price recognition. Even better, we get to see our hard-working customers be rewarded for their calf crop. It’s been a long time coming and our ranching families deserve it! For the first time, we submitted our entire calf crop for DNA evaluation. Every single bull in the offering has a DNA sample on file and their EPD profile is genomically enhanced. GE-EPDs uniquely use genomic test results in addition to pedigree, performance and progeny data for increased reliability of an animal’s EPD profile. Depending on the trait, GE-EPDs on unproven bulls have the same amount of accuracy as if that young bull has already sired 8-35 calves! While genomic testing is an additional tool for producers to use to more accurately predict the future performance of animals as parents in the population, it is not a replacement to performance data recording and visual evaluation! Individual performance measurements continue to be an important part in our program and are the first and foremost tool we utilize when curating the sale offering and retaining females. Overall the proof gained on young, non-parent animals, through a genomic enhancement is valuable and greatly mitigates the risk and allows for more directed selection. It’s been a great way to allow for quicker breed and herd improvement for both seedstock producers and commercial cattleman alike. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the friendship and support in our program. Never hesitate to call with a question or suggestion. Thank you from the Christensen & Dunsmore families Join us March 20, 2026 for our 55 th annual production sale!
