53 VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM
Be aware that the vapor rail and vapor line to the bottom load area and tee to street side if present will contain product vapors and possibly some liquid product.
Purge and ventilate the entire vapor recovery system before entering or repairing. Commodity fumes may be harmful
Do not disable the vapor recovery system or any part of the tank and piping to the extent that it cannot be purged, ventilated, and cleaned of product or vapors. Make sure that all vapor recovery systems are operational and safety for loading personnel. If no vapor recovery systems are present, open the manhole. (see TTMA RP No. 105) when the upstream product valves or vapor vents are being opened. Product may spray from these lines if not capped or connected to a hose. Carefully remove vapor recovery outlet caps. Pressure may have built up behind the cap.
The vapor recovery vents and systems should be properly maintained and pass vapor tightness tests.
City, state and federal vapor tightness regulation may apply. Know the requirements that apply to vapor tightness testing in your area.
