70 BRAKES

It is critical that any brake drum reaching maximum wear diameter, as cast on drum, by turning, grinding and/or wearing be considered unsafe and immediately replaced. In order to avoid serious injury or death, any brake drum exceeding this dimension is considered a safety hazard. If in doubt, contact the brake drum manufacturer. When installing camshaft seals, the seal on the slack adjuster side should be installed with seal facing into spider. This allows grease to purge outside the brake assembly when greasing the camshaft bushing. Failure to follow this procedure could cause grease to come into contact with brake linings, causing brake failure. When reassembling brakes, it is recommended that the brake return springs be replaced with new springs to assure proper operation of the brake. The use of additives in the air brake system is not recommended as they can be harmful to the performance of the air brake valves. (see TTMA TB No. 70) ABS: With vehicle stationary and ignition turned on or by disconnecting and reconnecting 7-way plug, the ABS light should illuminate and go out. A continuous light could mean the ABS is inoperative. The risk of operating a vehicle without ABS lies solely with the operator. ATTENTION WELDERS, this trailer is equipped with an electronic control unit for the ABS. BEFORE WELDING disconnect all power sources to the trailer. Spring brake housings are under extreme pressure. Release of cover without caging could result in extreme injury or death. Caging of spring brakes renders trailer emergency break-away brake system inoperative.
