Welcome to the Sale!
Welcome to the Flat Water Gang’s 17th Annual Bull Sale!
We sincerely appreciate your interest in this year’s offering and are excited to present this outstanding set of cattle for your evaluation. The bulls and heifers will be available for viewing Sunday afternoon and Monday morning at Broken Bow Livestock Market. Lunch and the auction will be held at the Cobblestone Hotel & Suites. Cooksley Red Angus has proudly raised registered cattle since 1989, and Sandbur Ridge since 1996. The focus of both operations has always been simple: provide commercial cattlemen with cattle that work for you. Our programs prioritize problem-free, fertile, and productive females. At the same time, we have placed strong emphasis on carcass merit and growth performance. By addressing all segments of the industry, our genetics are designed to fit seamlessly into any program and add measurable value to your profitability. The cattle industry is currently experiencing exceptional demand and strong prices — some of the best conditions we have seen in years. As many producers look to retain heifers and potentially expand their cow herds, the importance of long-lasting, productive females becomes even more evident. The bulls we offer are bred to sire durable cows that breed back consistently and remain productive for years to come. Greater longevity in your cow herd means more heifer calves to market from each calf crop, strengthening cash flow and enhancing long-term profitability. Our bulls are developed at Darr Bull Development Center near Cozad, Nebraska. Mitch and his team do an outstanding job every year, and they are always welcoming to anyone who would like to stop by and view the bulls prior to sale day. We are truly grateful for you — our customers. We recognize that you have many options when selecting your breeding stock. Our commitment to customer service, honest evaluations, and accurate performance data remains the foundation of our operations. If you ever have concerns about any animal purchased, please contact Ben or me as soon as possible, and we will work quickly to make it right. Additional information on this year’s offering is available through DV Auction. Please don’t hesitate to contact our sales team, Ben, or me with any questions.
We look forward to seeing you on the 16th of March in Broken Bow, Nebraska!

BROKEN BOW, NEBRASKA
Fellow Red Angus Enthusiasts, Vision, discipline, and perseverance allow one to take the path to success and goal achievement. A conservative business approach is necessary in the early stages of any business to allow for the experience to take hold, leading to healthy growth and the development of a product that will be resilient and profitable even when the market takes an unexpected turn. The ranching entities behind this annual offering of high caliber, Red Angus seedstock are from the exact approach described in the opening lines of this welcome letter. The outfits have proven their approach and mindset to be durable with substantial longevity in the volatile marketplace. We promise, these folks are not on cruise control during these highly successful times in the beef industry, as each of them is constantly seeking to improve the product they bring to you each year. The foundation cowherd of the Flat Water Gang is annually pressured to meet the rigorous fertility and production requirements, guided by the long standing, disciplined management principles that the firms believe in equally. Females are expected to adapt to the grazing resources with limited inputs and supplementation beyond the basic salt and mineral requirements. In these native conditions, they must calve with minimal to no issues, supported by maternal instinct that encourages calves to get up and nurse within a short time postpartum. The female base must have the utmost udder quality and milk volume to wean a calf to significant, acceptable weight targets on grass with no creep assistance, while breeding back within the set calving window set by their respective home ranches. These are just a few of the many reasons that customer retention is known to be high on this annual bull offering. The no-excuses approach has allowed these outfits to carry the ball across the line not only for themselves but also for their customers, consistently and year after year. For those reading this letter who have not refreshed your bull battery over the past couple of years, now is the time. Salvage values for older cattle are very, very good, as high as they have ever been, and as the national bull sale average continues to ratchet up, one should consider trading in the old for the new. Experts say this marketplace is in play for at least the next two years, allowing cattle sired by the next generation of genetics the opportunity to take advantage of current market conditions. The daughters by these bulls have the genetics behind them to advance any program in the right direction, minimizing inputs and maximizing production and longevity. The dams behind these bulls have proven they can meet any challenge and deliver profitability year after year. Ross Knott is not doing this for a hobby; his approach is with a disciplined passion to make his product more versatile and profitable at every turn. Ranching is one of the very best lifestyles, but it takes grit and discipline to establish the generational succession that many look forward to for the sake of the ranch’s legacy. We invite you to attend the 2026 edition of the Flat Water Gang Red Angus Bull Sale. The people behind the product are among the very best in the seedstock business, and the product itself is bred to enhance the future profitability and success of your program. If you should need any additional information about the offering, or assistance with selection or sight unseen purchasing, we encourage you to reach out to any member of the Innovation AgMarketing team. We will be more than happy to assist. Fellow cattlemen and women, times are very good for our industry, and we cannot stress enough the importance of doing what is necessary to hedge your risk and improve the profitability of your program through improved genetic selection for your program’s future.
Thank you for your business, and we look forward to fielding your interest in this year’s Flat Water Gang Bull Sale!

GGP 50K: Over 10 years of genomics research is distilled in the new GGP 50K. Detects gene markers that have the greatest influence on economically important traits and the most impact on key traits that cattle inherit from their parents. All bulls with the GGP logo on their pedigree box have had DNA submitted and are on file at the Red Angus Association of America. Bull Guarantee: Unless otherwise noted, all the breeding age bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam prior to pick up/delivery. In addition to the standard Terms and Conditions of the Red Angus Association of America, we will provide the first breeding season (the 90-day period immediately following turn out) guarantee on all yearling and older bulls. This guarantee is not an insurance or mortality policy, but a guarantee on functional fertility. It is not a substitute or replacement for poor management. Buyer assumes all risks for injury due to running bulls together or management decisions outside genetic control. For the guarantee to apply, we ask that you contact us as soon as a condition is observed and before the animal is sold. We will work with you to determine whether the animal is returned or sold for slaughter. We will attempt to provide a suitable replacement. If one cannot be provided of equal or greater value, we will issue a sale credit to be used in a future sale for the full purchase price less the salvage value of the animal. Terms and Conditions: The Auctioneer will settle any bidding disputes and his decision on such matters will be final. THE FLAT WATER GANG
GENETIC INFORMATION
The Cornerstone Cow The Cornerstone cow program is a tool for producers to utilize when selecting seed stock for their operation. The word Cornerstone is an architectural term meaning the first stone set in construction. The stone in which all the building depends. For our purpose, the Cornerstone Cow is a measure of the following:
Fertility + Production + Longevity = Profitability
This scoring model ranks the components of fertility, production to weaning, and longevity, within a herd and age group of females. The categories being scored are based upon the actual data submitted to the American Red Angus Association as a part of total herd reporting. Any cow scoring 90% or higher earns the title of a CORNERSTONE COW.
By scoring our cow herd we are attempting to provide you with an easy-to-understand value for each female in our herd. The Table below summarizes the scores for each age group of cows in production:
Age of Female 9 + years old

GENETIC INFORMATION
MPPA 7
108 or higher
MOST PROBABLE PRODUCING ABILITY (MPPA) – An estimate of a cow’s future productivity for a trait (such as progeny weaning ratio) based on her past productivity. For example, a cow’s MPPA for weaning ratio is calculated from the cow’s average progeny weaning ratio, the number of her progeny with weaning record, and the repeatability of weaning weight.

CALVING INTERVAL 6 368 or less* 5 369-375 4 376-397** 3 398-417 2 418-439 1 440 or more
CALVING INTERVAL – The amount of time (days or months) between the birth of a calf and the birth of a subsequent calf, both from the same cow. *Calving interval of 368 or less is assigned to Donor females that are 6 years old and older. **Calving Interval of 376 to 397 is assigned to Donor Females that are 5 years old and younger.
RATIO CHANGE 6
+15 or more +7 thru +14 0 thru +6 -1 thru -7 -8 thru -14 -15 or less
RATIO CHANGE – The difference between the birth weight ratio within a known population to the weaning weight ratio within the same population of individuals. Ratio change for this measure is the difference between the cows actual average birth ratio of all her calves and the weaning ratio of all her calves.
5 4 3 2 1
AGE 8
9 plus
AGE OF COWS – Cows can live for over 20 years, but on commercial farms the age at slaughter varies considerably. Farms with poor management, high-yielding cattle or high disease rates will slaughter their animals at a much younger age, normally after four lactations (around 5-6 years old), but sometimes after 2 or 3. Cows should be able to consistently breed and rebreed through about 8 years of age and performance should be maintained until around 12 years of age, that is when you might see a steeper decline in reproductive performance.
7 6 5 4 3 2 1
8 7 6 5 4 3 2
# OF NATURAL CALVES 8 8 plus 7 7 6 6 5 5 4 4 3 3 2 2 1 1
NATURAL CALVES – These are the calves that are conceived either by artificial insemination or natural service. These calves are carried by the dam and raised by the dam within the population of the operation. The number of natural calves is an indicator of the cow’s ability to raise a calf and rebreed within their environment over a longer period.

Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes
ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the post- weaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED .......Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value) BW ........Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value) WW .......Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value) YW ........Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value) ADG .......Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value) DMI .......Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value) MILK .....Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value) ME ........Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value) HPG .......Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value)
CEM ......Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value) STAY ......Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value) MARB ....Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value) YG .........Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value) CW ........Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value) REA .......Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value) FAT ........Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs.
