I. Prayer Brings Answers 1. Christ definitely teaches this in Matthew 7:7-11 and Luke 11:9- 13. 2. He illustrates this with two parables. a. The visitor at midnight (Luke 11:5-8). b. The unjust judge (Luke 18:1- 8 ) . 3. Prayer therefore is a power. It brings results. II. The Heart of Prayer Is Personal Dealings with God 1. Prayer means pressing our plea until we receive a response from God indicating His will (James 5:15; I John 5:15; Ephesians 2 : 8 ). 2. Prayer is sometimes refused (Deuteronomy 3:23-28; II Co­ rinthians 12:7-10; Mark 14:36). a. God cannot give what is in­ consistent with His own na­ ture. b. We need to submit to God’s revealed will. 3. God often assents to petitions of faith. LIFTED UP BY TH E LORD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS In thy righteousness shall they be exalted (Psalm 89:16). I. The Lord’s Righteousness 1. It is in every way perfect and spotless. 2. It is a meritorious righteousness. 3. It is an incomparable righteous­ ness (Philippians 3:8). 4. It is an everlasting righteous­ ness (Daniel 9:24). 5. It is a soul-dignifying and exalt­ ing righteousness. II. The Believer’s Exaltation 1. The believer is lifted above many evils. a. Above the law as a covenant of works. b. Above the world. c. Above the power and malice of Satan. d. Above death. c. Above all accusations (Rom. 8:33). 2. The believer is lifted to happi­ ness. a. Peace and reconciliation with God (Romans 5:1). b. Sonship (Galatians 4:4, 5). c. Fellowship an d familiarity with God. d. Access to God with holy con­ fidence and boldness (He­ brews 16:19-22). e. Endless glory.
