2024 MFLKF Annual Report

DENISON, IOWA

The Denison Police Department launched its Adopt A School program in Fall 2024, where officers visit schools weekly to build relationships with students and foster trust. Grant funding will provide custom materials, such as handouts, canopies, and promotional items with the police shield, to create a welcoming and recognizable presence at schools and community events.

The Denison Volunteer Firefighter Association is creating "Safety Town", a child-sized learning space to teach kids essential safety skills like bike safety, crossing streets, and severe weather responses. Grant funds will help build streets, structures, and safety features, and provide equipment for interactive learning.

The Norelius Community Library serves Denison and Crawford County, providing diverse educational and recreational resources. Grant funding will enhance the library's “Teen Zone” with mobile bookcases, gaming equipment, crafting supplies, tablets, and other tools to create a dedicated, engaging space for pre-teens and teens ages 12-18. Denison Troop 55 provides life skills, teamwork, and leadership development through scouting activities for youth in Denison, Woodbine, and surrounding communities. This grant will help fund a new troop trailer to safely store and transport camping and event equipment, replacing an outdated and unreliable bus that served the troop for 30 years.

Siouxland Ag in the Classroom teaches agriculture to 2nd and 4th graders in seven Iowa counties. Funding will provide hands-on learning materials and educational handouts for 4,500 students every six weeks.
