August 2024 Newsletter

Dear MAAG Americas Team:

I hope that all of you are having a great summer and get a chance to spend some vacation time with your families!

As we are continuing our journey to reach the goals for the year, I wanted to take some time to reflect on our first year together. In this past year, I saw tremendous commitment from all our teams in the Americas taking on a tough Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budget in a challenging business environment. With your help we were able to grow the business, reduce our lead times, improve quality, keep costs under control, and together we also improved our operating margins. This put us in a good spot for the remainder of this year as well as going into 2025. The management team worked hard to put you – our people – into the focus; we increased training opportunities, internal career developments, and started renovating your workplaces – all of which will continue to be a key focus of our attention. Most of these initiatives came as results of our listening sessions and internal surveys. We also invested in new equipment to modernize our operations with an automated disk grinder in Kent and robotic welding in Eagle Rock as examples.

There is still a lot to be done! I am excited to be on this journey with you. After all, it is YOU that make the difference!

Paul Merich

Sales and Service Teams Training at NGR in Atlanta NGR, our customer and a great partner, hosted MAAG team for a training at their lab in July. Our Sales and Service teams spent a full day learning and practicing with MAAG equipment in use. The MAAG team was given full reins of the NGR extrusion line, giving them the chance to calibrate the pump to process PCR material. This training has helped improve their knowledge of the pump control system and will aid in improving our technology for use in the recycling industry. Having the ability to experiment with material feed systems, extruder parameters, and pump settings, is of great benefit.

Safety Message

Hobbies When Elijah Patterson, Die Plate Designer in Eagle Rock, VA, was only 13 years old, he bought his first dirt bike after a friend inspired him. Since then, his passion for riding has taken him to beautiful mountain trails with others who share the same enjoyment. At age 21, Elijah bought his first Harley yet chose to later sell it so he could keep his dad’s bike after his father's passing in 2013. Elijah stated that his dad wished for him to always keep this bike, which is the intention, as it means a lot to him. Recently, Elijah and his friend took a trip through the Smoky Mountains visiting Cherokee, NC and Clingman's Dome. Clingman's dome is a walkway that reaches a total height of 45 feet at 6,644 feet in elevation. It offers panoramic views of three states and offers a beautiful sunset overlook. It took about 6 ½ hours for Elijah to reach this point in North Carolina, as they took the long route. They also visited the Wheels Through Time Museum, which showcases rare old bikes and holds an annual raffle of a classic motorcycle (this year it's a 1936 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead). During the trip, they enjoyed delicious food at Pop’s Biscuits. Later in Cherokee they enjoyed tasty ice cream and coffee. Elijah plans to take another trip to West Virginia this month to check out Monongahela National Forest where tales of Big Foot sightings are told. Elijah enjoys the full experience of the scenery and looks forward to riding through Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks. These experiences through the fresh mountain air make this hobby most enjoyable for Elijah as he views nature at its finest along the roadway.

Chipotle Shrimp Tacos This is a recipe to prepare delicious Shrimp Tacos similar to those of the famous Fisher's Restaurant in Mexico. I hope you enjoy!

Don Reynolds – Welder at the Eagle Rock location has a cat named Church. His cat is a polydactyl which means there is an extra toe on his paws. Don said they named his cat from the movie Pet Cemetary. Churches' favorite thing to do is watch birds, squirrels, and loves to eat! Thank you, Don, for sharing Church with us!

Ingredients: Olive oil

1 tbsp chopped garlic 3 tbsp chopped onion 2 tbsp chipotle (diced) 14 oz shrimp (previously cooked) 3 tbsp sour cream or Mexican cream

Seasoning sauces: 1 tsp Worcestershire 1 tsp Maggi

4 tbsp grated cheese Salt & pepper to your preference 1 Avocado Black beans (1 to 2 tbsp per taco) Flour Tortillas

Preparing the shrimp: Heat the olive oil in a pan and then add the garlic. Once lightly browned, add the onions. Once both are browned add the chipotle. Mix together and then add the shrimp. Cook for a couple of minutes. Add the cream and mix. Season with a splash of your seasoning sauces and then add the cheese. Finish with salt and pepper to taste. To make the taco: Heat the tortilla and spread some mashed avocado on it. Then add the shrimp, beans and a slice of avocado. If you'd like it to be extra spicy, add a bit more chipotle. ENJOY!
