EPA Method 300.0 Determination of Inorganic Anions by Ion Chromatography
Running single analyte standards is the gold standard to determine retention times. However, fortifying your sample with your analytes of interest can help determine if the peaks in the sample are truly your analytes of interest or separate unknown analytes. There are several commercially available columns that will allow for analysis of both Part A & B analytes. We have had great success using the AS22 column from Thermo or the Metrosep A Supp 5 column from Metrohm. Section 3.11 was updated in EPA 300.1 to a certified reference material and removed the sourcing specificity in this version.
You should expect to make some changes to this method as you begin to run samples. IC advancements have made analysis easier since this method was orignially published. Make sure to note any changes in your SOPs if you are referencing this method on your ISO: 17025 scope.
