By Jamie Barrie A ccording to research by the University of California beers is better for longevity than exercise. In 2003, University of California neurologist, Claudia Kawas began the long-term study of 1,700 subjects between the ages of 90 and 99 to explore the impacts of their daily habits on their longevity. Research uncovered that of the subjects who drank an average of two glasses of beer a day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death, compared to 11 percent for subjects who exercised 15 to 45 minutes a day.

Kawas’s research found other factors that also boost longevity:

• Weight, as research shows that subjects that were slightly overweight, but not obese, cut their odds of an early death by 3 percent. • Active Lifestyle, as subjects who kept busy with a daily hobby for two or more hours a day were 21 percent less likely to die early. • Coffee, as subjects those who drank two cups of coffee a day cut their risk of dying early by 10 percent.

So, as we see it, the key to longevity is to start a new hobby of brewing coffee flavored light beer and you will live forever, but we think that further study is needed to determine that for sure, but we are willing to give it a try in the name of science.
