The Heart Behind EXIT Realty Community EXIT Realty Community, an inde - pendently owned and operated brokerage in Komoka, officially opened its doors in May 2024. The company is part of EXIT Realty Corp. International, which began in Mississauga in 1996 and will cele - brate its 30th anniversary in 2026. Canadian-owned and operated, all Exit brokerages share a common “people first” philosophy—some - thing that local Broker Ken Patter - son has embraced wholeheartedly. “We are a family disguised as a
real estate company,” Ken says, describing the culture that sets his office apart. “Our company invests in our people through mindset training and holistic affirmation. When you build people up, it benefits every part of their lives, not just their careers.” Ken knows the real estate industry inside and out. His background includes years of experience with two of the largest firms in the world, where he gained valuable knowledge but longed for a more personal approach. What drew him to EXIT Realty was its unique business model—one where every agent has a vested interest in the success of others. “We build leaders here,” Ken explains. “That approach has far-reaching effects, not just in the business but also in the personal lives of each agent. It creates an environment where people support one another instead of competing against each other.” After spending years in the GTA, Ken and his wife often visited friends in Delaware. Over time, they fell in love with the area and the sense of belonging they felt in its small-town atmosphere. In 2018, the family made the move to Mount Brydges, a decision Ken describes as life-changing. “We just knew this was where we were meant to be,” he shares. “The community spirit here is incredible—it feels like home.” Since opening the Komoka office, Ken has prioritized giving back to the community that welcomed him so warmly. EXIT Realty Community has already been involved in the Komoka Night Market, various food drives and the annual “Photo with Santa and Holiday Food Drive,” which transforms the expansive office at
Glendon Drive and Jefferies Road into a festive gathering space for families. Ken envisions the office becoming more than a place of business—he sees it as a community hub, open to showcasing local events and offering support to small businesses. His commitment to community extends further through his role as an executive member of the Komoka-Kilworth Business Association. “The KKBA is a great resource for local businesses looking to grow and succeed in the area,” he says. “It’s about building connections and helping one another thrive.” Ken and his team also understand the challenges that come with change. As Komoka and the surrounding areas continue to grow rapidly, some residents are cautious about the pace of development. Ken acknowledges those concerns. “We empathize with the resistance to change,” he says, “but remind this community that with change and growth come opportunities— more resources, improved infrastructure, a stronger tax base and job creation. Growth can bring new energy, but it’s important to keep the heart of the community intact.” Currently, seven agents work out of the Komoka office, with plans for that number to continue growing. For Ken, real estate has never been about transactions. “We believe that buying or selling a home is not a transaction but a journey,” he explains. “It requires someone with the right tools to guide you through with care and compassion.” His team prides itself on offering complete support, connecting clients with trusted tradespeople, lawyers, and other professionals to make each move as seamless as possible. “We vet all of our recommended partners,” Ken emphasizes. “We only recommend those businesses that we would use ourselves.” Ken’s approach is rooted in empathy, connection and authenticity—qualities that resonate with both his clients and his agents. In business and in life, he follows a guiding principle that reflects his values: “Be the person your dog thinks you are.”
