Hometown St. Thomas These traditions spark emotions tied to the season: gratitude and warmth (Thanksgiving); joy and festivity (Oktoberfest); and excitement and play (Halloween). They evoke nostalgia, connect people to cultural heritage, and provide a sense of continuity and comfort as daylight fades and colder months approach. Beyond fun and festivity, they encourage connection — through meals, costumes, and celebration — reminding us that we’re not facing the season alone. Despite different customs, all three serve as communal traditions that offer reassurance, ter. Originating from agrarian traditions, each celebrates abundance, seasonal change, and community. They revolve around gathering – Thanksgiving through family meals, Oktoberfest in beer halls, and Halloween via trick-or-treating and parties. All three feature autumn-themed food and drink, such as squash, apples, warm spices, and hearty fare—plus beer for Oktoberfest. Their shared visual aesthetic includes pumpkins, fall leaves, and cozy décor (my wife gets the credit for this one!). Dressing up is also key -- traditional Bavarian outfits, Halloween costumes, and festive attire at Thanksgiving.
