W

to a design brief and support- ing resources such as lectures, roundtable discussions, and reviews. The concepts and dialogue produced through the Superstudio will be catalogued as part of a curated collection to form a national vision for the Green New Deal that can support policy-makers and ad- vocates to advance Green New Deal ideas and approaches. The Superstudio projects will also inform a national conver- sation on policy and design at a Summit convened by the Landscape Architecture Foun- dation in September 2021. All eligible submittals will be archived and used to form a curated collection for potential exhibits, articles, or content for congressional readership. Participation in the Super- studio is open to graduate and undergraduate programs of

landscape architecture, archi- tecture, planning, and related fields as well as professional practices and individuals in these fields. Participants may also build teams and/or col- laborate with other profes- sions or academic programs and disciplines, community organizations, local firms, and other stakeholders. The approach, types of projects, pedagogical method, and how the projects manifest the ethos of the Green New Deal are at the discretion of each studio. The Superstudio will run from August 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021. Universities may participate in the Super- studio in the fall semester of 2020 and/or the spring semes- ter of 2021. Other groups and individuals may participate on their own timeline as long as work is submitted by the June

30 deadline. (Green New Deal studios that took place before this call are encouraged to submit prior work.) All studios that wish to par- ticipate must register in order to join the network of other participating studios and re- ceive access to Superstudio resources, events, and oppor- tunities. Final materials from the studios must be submitted by June 30, 2021. The Superstudio is an open call for designs that spatially manifest the principles and policy ideas of the Green New Deal with regional and lo- cal specificity. A national climate plan like the Green

New Deal will be understood by most people through the landscapes, buildings, infra- structures, and public works agenda that it inspires. The Superstudio is a concerted effort to give form and visual clarity to the scale, scope, and pace of transformation that the Green New Deal implies. Superstudio participants will join a collaborative net- work of other participating studios that will have access

Monmouth County, New Jersey breaks ground on new DMR Architects-designed West Wing security vestibule addition

in the Americans with Dis- abilities Act. “It was important to ad- dress the practical needs of the county while seamlessly integrating the new addition with the aesthetic of the origi- nal Courthouse,” said Kurt Vierheilig, AIA, LEED AP BD+C , director of design and partner at DMR Architects. “The new security vestibule will be the new public lobby to the Courthouse, expressing an appropriate civic pres- ence with its modern exterior design, while improving the efficiency and safety of secu - rity screening and interior circulation.” TheMonmouth CountyWest Wing Security Vestibule is one of hundreds of munici- pal buildings that DMR has designed in New Jersey, and one of ten municipal projects either recently completed or currently underway, includ- ing projects in Montgomery, Wayne, Garfield, Ridgefield and Mahwah. FREEHOLD BOROUGH, NJ — Construction for the West Wing Security Vestibule addition to the Monmouth County Courthouse, designed by DMR Architects , began recently following a ground- breaking ceremony in Free- hold Borough. DMR Architects designed the 3,400 s/f screening area to address modern security equipment and measures that the existing facility, built in 1954, could not accommodate. It will be used as the lone entryway for all employees and visitors to the building, replacing the courthouse’s pre- viously- used East and West wing entrance hallways. DMR’s design supports easy sightlines, an intuitive and ef- ficient queuing system, ample space for machines including metal detectors and up to four x-ray machines, and techno- logical upgrades with access to restricted areas and video monitoring systems. “By investing in the space and technology required to support the most sophisti- cated safety protocols avail-

able today, Monmouth County is demonstrating its com- mitment to the safety of all those who work in the County courthouse and the hundreds that visit daily,” said Lloyd Rosenberg, AIA , president & CEO of DMR Architects.

“We’re honored to provide the infrastructure that will allow Monmouth County’s judicial machine to continue running effectively.” In addition to the construc- tion of the West Wing Security Vestibule, the project provides

for the reconstruction of the East Wing main entrance stairs, landing and handrails, along with the restoration of additional exterior entrance stairs throughout the building. All improvements will comply with standards enumerated
