Michael Schipper, The Blau & Berg Company “Invest in the long term”

f you could dine with anyone dead or alive who would you choose? Theodore Roosevelt What is your most no- table project, deal or trans- action? I recently secured a new lo- cation for a three-time repeat client who in the span of five years grew from a low, six- figure company, to a mid-eight figure company in which we have expanded their foot-print twenty-five fold since the first transaction. Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in, about your current posi- tion and why you choose the field/profession you are in today? When I began this career path, I knew very little about the industry, however having been in the business world for my entire post college career equipped me with a firm footing in business to business negotiation. I had left a position in recyclable commodities brokerage and I

to juggle a lot of balls in the air and do your best to be comfort- able with it. What outside activities do you enjoy during you free time? Running, hiking, biking, and watching my kids’ sports activities. What inspiring word of

advice would you give to a young executive graduat- ing from college today? Invest in the long term. It may take years to find your place in your career and longer to truly be successful. If your chosen path is truly what you want to do, when you feel like giving up, push harder. MAREJ

sales, which covered most of the business experience; with the exception of a few years as a journeyman on Wall Street. I knew brokerage, and I knew how to deal with people and the plethora of personalities that exist. Although it took a few years for me to make the jump frommy previous career to the CRE world, once I did, I never looked back. After nearly six years I have had the opportunity to work with a great group of people and build towards a greater level of success as the years go on. What unique qualities and or personality do you feel makes you most suc- cessful in your profession? Listening before speaking. What challenges and or

obstacles do you feel you needed to overcome to be- come as successful as you are today? I learned very early on that as much as you may think you can control a deal, you cannot. You can steer the ship, but you cannot control the ocean, so to speak. In this industry you cannot predict the un- predictable. You are dealing with businesses, more so than individuals and in doing so, a collaborative decision-making process may lead to results you could never have imagined (good and bad). Never count a deal until it’s final, and do not micromanage the minute details along the way. Simply put, if it’s meant to happen it will, and if not, it won’t. Learn
