Stunning symbol of charming Porto There are many bridges on the Douro River, all of which are attrac- tive in their own way. But the real star, symbol and emblem of Porto is the Dom Luis I Bridge, a magnif- icent iron structure dating back to the 19th century. It was built by Théophile Seyrig, a partner of Gus- tave Eiffel, which is why this bridge is reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower. Covering a span of 385 metres, it has two decks, both of which are accessible to pedestrians. You can see it literally everywhere – on cal- endars and brochures, and even on wine labels. The bridge is lo- cated at the very centre of the old port and offers panoramic views encompassing the beauty of Por- to. It is particularly magical at night, when the lights are turned on and transform it into a true jewel of the city’s urban landscape.
