Pizza has long been known informally as America’s favorite food, with approximately 350 pieces eaten in the U.S. every second. That’s a lot of pepperoni! In honor of National Pizza Day on Feb. 9, we wanted to share some of our local favorite pizza shops, plus one a little more out of the way. If you’re one of the 40% of Americans who eats pizza at least once a week, mark these names down for a flavor explosion. PIZZAZZ ON THE CIRCLE This family-owned restaurant in University Heights is the perfect location for anyone looking for an old-fashioned delicious pizza. You won’t regret ordering a simple pepperoni pie, but the menu is full of specialty options for more adventurous types. GERACI’S RESTAURANT Originally opening in 1956, Geraci’s Restaurant now has three locations in the greater Cleveland area. Its owners are proud of using the same recipes passed down through their family through generations, offering traditional Sicilian flavors for modern foodies. Geraci’s also boasts an extensive menu,

DEWEY’S PIZZA Andrew DeWitt opened the first Dewey’s Pizza restaurant in Oakley in 1998, but it now has two dozen locations and has become a favorite of many Ohio pizza lovers. But DeWitt doesn’t like to hear his creation referred to as a “chain” because each location maintains a commitment to fresh, unique pizza that people love. While other options on this list dabble in pasta and other entrees, Dewey’s keeps it simple with a menu restricted to pizza and salad. Place your order by visiting DeweysPizza.com. GIORDANO’S Much to my regret, the nearest Giordano’s is about two hours away. So, it’s probably not your best bet for a Friday night pizza run. But if you are in Columbus or another city with one (find a complete list at Giordanos.com ), check them out. I’m a raving fan for a reason, and you might become one, too!
